Le poids des épreuves incessantes par lesquelles le peuple de Dieu est passé devrait nous enseigner sur la manière d'endurer nos légères afflictions. Nous sommes souvent tentés de murmurer dès que nous sommes sous l'effet des moindres afflictions. C'est alors que nous devrions nous contrôler.

David, dans sa détresse et ses craintes, se réconforte à la pensée que Dieu connaît tous ses griefs et toutes ses doléances. Dieu possède un vase contenant les larmes de Son peuple, celles du péché comme celles de l'affliction et Il consigne tout cela dans Son livre. Il les observe et les prend bien en considération. Chaque véritable croyant peut réellement affirmer : « le Seigneur est mon aide et je ne craindrai pas ce que l'homme pourrait me faire » ; en effet, ce dernier ne possède aucune puissance, sinon celle qui lui est accordée par le ciel.

Tes Promesses, Seigneur, m’environnent sans cesse : elles ne sont pas contraignantes car je sais que Tu connais Ton serviteur ; elles sont comme une bride qui me retient dans les faux pas et qui me dirige sur le chemin du devoir.

Ces promesses doivent faire l'objet de notre reconnaissance, dans la prière. Si Dieu nous délivre du péché, par Sa Miséricorde et Son Pardon, Il est tout à fait capable de sauver notre âme de la mort, le gage du péché.

Là où le Seigneur a commencé une œuvre pleine de bonté, Il est capable de la continuer et de la mener à la perfection.

David espère que Dieu va le garder, même dans toute « approche » du péché.

Nous devrions orienter nos pensées vers une délivrance, celle du péché comme celle de l'épreuve, afin de pouvoir nous consacrer à un meilleur service pour le Seigneur, service dénué de toute crainte. Si la Grâce a délivré notre âme de la mort du péché, le Seigneur nous conduira vers les cieux, pour marcher éternellement avec Lui, dans la lumière.
