15 à 18 Le châtiment du méchant. Complètement éclairé sur les voies de Dieu, David comprend que le méchant, dans les efforts qu'il fait pour arriver à ses fins, ne réussit qu'à préparer sa propre perte. Il est ainsi envers lui-même l'exécuteur de la sentence divine.

Il est. De nouveau un brusque changement de sujet. C'est le méchant qui apparaît au premier plan, mais comme un condamné. Ce verset, dont la traduction ne parvient pas à rendre l'énergique concision, retentit comme la sentence d'un juge. En outre chacun des termes : néant, malice, mensonge, a un double sens, indiquant à la fois la perversité du méchant et l'inutilité de ses efforts. Il faudrait traduire : Il est dans les douleurs (de l'enfantement) pour le crime, le néant ; il a conçu la malice, le malheur ; et il a enfanté le mensonge, la déception. Comparez Job 15.35 ; Esaïe 26.18 ; 33.11 ; 59.4.
