Je poserai sa main... C'est ici la promesse d'un empire universel sur le monde, tel qu'on le connaissait alors ; le pouvoir de l'élu de Dieu atteindra d'une part jusqu'à la grande mer (la Méditerranée), d'autre part jusqu'aux fleuves. Le pluriel les fleuves désigne sans doute l'Euphrate et ses divers bras ou canaux. L'idée d'un tel empire n'est pas expressément contenue dans la promesse faite à Nathan ; elle l'est dans les Psaumes 2.8 ; 45.17 ; 72.8-11.
