Le devoir de faire passer les autres avant soi, de les estimer plus que soi, en toute circonstance, est motivé par l'estime, que chacun doit avoir pour son frère.

Ailleurs, Paul donne ce précepte tout semblable : "Que chacun estime l'autre comme plus excellent que soi même." (Philippiens 2.3 ; comparez Luc 14.7-10 et surtout 1Timothée 1.15).
