World English Bible They reported to the angel of Yahweh who stood among the myrtle trees, and said, "We have walked back and forth through the earth, and behold, all the earth is at rest and in peace."

Ils répondirent à l'ange de l'Eternel. Le rapport des messagers est adressé à l'ange de l'Eternel, qui est maintenant le centre de la scène. Ce rapport renferme en même temps la réponse à la question de Zacharie : Qui sont ceux-ci ? On voit, en effet, par son contenu, qu'ils ont été envoyés pour rendre compte de l'état du monde à ce moment. Ils sont donc le symbole du regard divin qui se promène sur la terre.

En repos et tranquille. Au commencement du règne de Darius, pour la première fois depuis la chute de l'empire babylonien et l'édit de Cyrus, la terre (du moins dans la partie formant le pourtour de la Terre Sainte) était en pleine paix, fait bien rare dans l'antiquité, surtout dans ces pays de l'Orient.
