Zacharie 1.5

Vos pères, où sont-ils ? et les prophètes, ont-ils vécu à toujours ?
אֲבֽוֹתֵיכֶ֖ם אַיֵּה־הֵ֑ם וְהַ֨נְּבִאִ֔ים הַלְעוֹלָ֖ם יִֽחְיֽוּ׃
Vos ancêtres ne sont plus là et les prophètes n’ont pas vécu indéfiniment, vous le savez bien.

Vos pères, où sont-ils ? Le prophète fait ressortir le contraste entre les hommes qui dans les temps précédents ont, soit entendu, soit proclamé la parole de l'Eternel, et cette parole elle-même. Ces générations anciennes d'Israélites et de prophètes ont disparu, mais la parole est demeurée par l'accomplissement des menaces qu'elle renfermait contre les rebelles, et elle subsiste encore aujourd'hui pour leurs enfants, s'ils ne savent pas profiter de ces enseignements.
