Il ne dit pas seulement que le monde passe, mais sa figure, parce que tout, dans l'économie présente qui va finir, n'est que figures, formes, apparences, masques (surtout dans le monde, au sens de l'Ecriture).

Et de là saint Paul tire la conséquence que le chrétien doit vivre dans un état habituel de complet détachement, avoir dans ce monde le moins de liens possible, et n'être esclave d'aucune chose heureuse ou triste.
