Double fondement de certitude pour l'espérance vivante : l'héritage est conservé pour nous dans les cieux (verset 4) et nous sommes gardés pour cet héritage qui ne nous serait guère assuré, si nous mêmes n'étions gardés au milieu des épreuves. (versets 6-9)

La puissance de Dieu est la garde qui nous protège contre les puissances hostiles. (1Pierre 5.8-10,Philippiens 4.7 ; Romains 8.31-39)

Mais comme l'assentiment et la confiance de l'homme sont toujours la condition de son salut, l'apôtre ajoute : par la foi. C'est dans la mesure où il se confie en la puissance de Dieu que l'homme est sauvé par elle. (verset 9)
