Ce recours d'Asa à l'alliance du roi de Syrie est le résultat d'un affaiblissement de sa foi, comme le prophète Hanani le lui fait sévèrement sentir (2Chroniques 16.7 et suivants). Au commencement de son règne, Asa avait montré une grande confiance en l'Eternel, à l'occasion d'une redoutable invasion éthiopienne. Mais dans sa vieillesse, il paraît y avoir eu chez lui un déclin spirituel qui se manifesta également dans la maladie dont il mourut (2Chroniques 16.12).

Prit tout l'argent et l'or qui restait... Peut-être Asa avait-il déjà puisé lui-même dans le trésor qu'il avait précédemment reconstitué. Ce qui restait fut envoyé à Ben-Hadad.

Ben-Hadad, fils de Hadad (Hadad. probablement le dieu du soleil chez les Syriens). C'est le premier des trois rois de ce nom qui ont régné à Damas.

Tabrimmon, Rimmon est bon. Rimmon, dont le nom paraît dans les inscriptions cunéiformes sous la forme Ramanu, était le dieu de l'air et du tonnerre.

Hézion, peut-être le même que Rézon, 11.23.

      15 It happened on the next day, that he took a thick cloth, dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died. Then Hazael reigned in his place.
