Salomon devine immédiatement sous cette démarche un complot à l'exécution duquel sa mère sert d'instrument inconscient (verset 13, note). De là cette explosion d'indignation.

Demande donc... : demande tout d'un temps la royauté pour lui !

Car il est mon frère aîné. Sa qualité de fils aîné lui donnait déjà certains droits au trône, et son mariage avec Abisag aurait eu pour résultat de fortifier ses prétentions.

Pour Abiathar..., Joab (1.7), qui, en cas de succès du complot, auraient partagé le pouvoir avec Adonija.
