Samarie. Le mot désigne ici la ville. Ce n'est que plus tard que le nom de Samarie a été donné à tout le pays des dix tribus.

Naboth se réjouissait peut-être de voir qu'une vigne était située près de son palais, mais cette opportunité lui fut fatale ; les biens que possède un homme peuvent être pour lui une occasion de chute, avec toutes les mauvaises conséquences que cela peut entraîner pour son voisinage. Le mécontentement est véritablement un péché, il tourmente les hommes. Ce mauvais sentiment ne résulte pas d'une condition de vie, mais de la nature humaine : remarquons ainsi le contentement de Paul dans sa prison, alors qu'Achab, dans son palais, était insatisfait. Ce roi bénéficiait de tous les plaisirs disponibles en Canaan, ce pays merveilleux : la richesse d'un royaume, les plaisirs de sa cour, les honneurs et la puissance du trône ; cependant, malgré tout cela, il convoitait la vigne de Naboth.

Les mauvais désirs exposent les hommes à de continuelles actions pernicieuses ; de telles personnes, malgré leur aisance matérielle, sont toujours insatiables, aspirant sans cesse à satisfaire leurs convoitises.
