Segond 21 Le roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat : « Je vais me déguiser pour aller au combat ; mais toi, mets tes habits. » Le roi d'Israël se déguisa donc, puis il partit au combat.

World English Bible The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "I will disguise myself, and go into the battle; but you put on your robes." The king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle.

Cette proposition d'Achab paraît au premier coup d'œil d'une lâcheté et d'une impudence éhontées. Cependant il faut tenir compte de la prophétie de Michée, qui n'avait pas été sans produire sur les deux rois quelque effet et qui ne menaçait que le seul Achab. Elle lui donnait en quelque sorte le droit de pourvoir par une mesure spéciale à sa sûreté propre, tandis que Josaphat pouvait aller au combat sans aucune précaution particulière.

Toi, revêts-toi : Toi, tu n'as pas les mêmes raisons que moi d'adopter un déguisement. Achab n'a pas de mauvaise intention contre Josaphat ; il cherche uniquement à se mettre lui-même à l'abri.
