On doit admirer ici le courage de Jonathan qui connaissait la violence de son père.

Il ne prit point part... La scène avait eu lien au commencement du repas, lorsque Saül s'était aperçu de l'absence de David.

L'avait outragé. S'il s'agit de David, tout est clair. Mais c'était plutôt Jonathan que Saül avait outragé (verset 30). Si le pronom le se rapporte à Jonathan, ces mots : à cause de David, doivent s'expliquer dans ce sens, qu'il était profondément affligé de ce que l'outrage qu'il venait de recevoir de son père au sujet de David prouvait décidément que la haine de Saül contre celui-ci était incurable.
