Lorsque les hommes se diront : « Maintenant règne la paix ! Maintenant nous sommes en sécurité ! », précisément alors, subite et imprévue, la catastrophe fondra sur eux. Il en sera comme d’une femme enceinte surprise par les douleurs, et aucun n’échappera.

Une femme enceinte ignorant le moment précis des douleurs, mais de douleurs inévitables, qui peuvent la surprendre au milieu de la joie ou au sein du sommeil, cette image est d'une saisissante vérité.

"Un Dieu qui nous avertit si souvent et de tant de manières que nous serons surpris, est bien loin de vouloir nous surprendre. C'est l'oubli de Dieu et notre propre incrédulité, qui causent une surprise si déplorable, et qui est sans ressource." Quesnel.
