After certain years he went down to Ahab to Samaria. Ahab killed sheep and cattle for him in abundance, and for the people who were with him, and moved him to go up with him to Ramoth Gilead.

Au bout de quelques années : 1Rois 22.2 dit : en la troisième année ; mais il s'agit là des trois ans pendant lesquels il n'y eut pas de guerre entre la Syrie et Israël (verset 1), et dont le terme doit nécessairement être fixé peu avant la mort d'Achab, laquelle eut lieu, d'après 1Rois 22.52, la dix-septième année de Josaphat. Dans notre passage, les quelques années sont comptées à partir du mariage dont parle le verset 1. Quand ce mariage eut-il lieu ? On voit par 2Rois 8.25-26 que, en la douzième année de Joram, fils d'Achab, soit 13 ou 14 ans (selon qu'on compte un an ou deux pour le règne d'Achazia. fils d'Achab) après la mort d'Achab, Achazia, petit-fils de Josaphat, avait 22 ans. Donc, à la mort d'Achab, il avait 22 ans moins 13 (ou moins 14), soit 9 (ou 8) ans ; ce qui, en admettant la naissance d'Achazia environ un an après le mariage de son père Joram, reporte ce mariage à 10 (ou 9) ans avant la mort d'Achab et justifie l'expression de notre texte : quelques années (7 ou 8 ans).

Achab tua pour lui... Cette large hospitalité devait disposer favorablement Josaphat pour l'expédition projetée.

Au lieu de cela, 1Rois 22.3 raconte un conseil de guerre tenu par Achab, dans lequel il fut décidé de reprendre Ramoth de Galaad.

Il le sollicita, littéralement : il le séduisit. Par cette expression, et en attendant 19.1 et suivants, l'auteur condamne déjà cette campagne.

      21 A spirit came out and stood before Yahweh, and said, 'I will entice him.'
      22 Yahweh said to him, 'How?' He said, 'I will go out and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' He said, 'You will entice him, and will also prevail. Go out and do so.'
      23 Now therefore, behold, Yahweh has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; and Yahweh has spoken evil concerning you."

      35 The battle increased that day. The king was propped up in his chariot facing the Syrians, and died at evening. The blood ran out of the wound into the bottom of the chariot.
