Lorsque Salomon eut achevé de prier, le feu descendit du ciel et consuma l'holocauste et les sacrifices, et la gloire de l'Éternel remplit la maison.

1 à 3 Le livre des Rois donne ici, comme conclusion de la prière de Salomon, une allocution finale dans laquelle le roi bénit le peuple.

Le feu descendit du ciel... Nouvelle manifestation par laquelle Dieu consacre spécialement l'autel des holocaustes. Ceci est emprunté à une autre source que le livre des Rois, source dont l'auteur pensait que la nuée n'était descendue qu'alors.

La réponse divine à la prière de Salomon.

- Dieu répondit de façon merveilleuse à la prière de Salomon. Les grâces divines envers les pécheurs sont établies de façon telle, qu'elles puissent les impressionner, révélant ainsi toute la Majesté et la Sainteté du Seigneur.

Le peuple honora et adora l'Éternel. Quand ce Dernier se manifesta, tel un feu consumant les pécheurs, les Israélites purent se réjouir en Lui : Il était leur Lumière. Ils avaient raison d'annoncer : « car Sa bonté dure à toujours ». C'est vraiment une grande Grâce de l'Éternel, que nous ne soyons pas consumés à cause de notre péché ; en fait, un Sacrifice a été fait pour nous, ce qui devrait nous conduire à être vraiment reconnaissants ! Celui qui discerne, par une foi réelle, le Sauveur torturé, mourant pour le péché de l'homme, ne pourra qu'être bouleversé par cette épreuve endurée ; cette âme verra accrue, sa haine du péché et ne pourra qu'être plus vigilante, en vue de mener une vie plus sainte.

Salomon effectua avec brio tout ce qui était en son pouvoir, pour honorer Dieu et le temple.

Ceux qui commencent à servir le Seigneur, peuvent éventuellement connaître un certain succès dans leurs affaires. C'était l'objet de la louange de Salomon ; c'est par la Grâce de Dieu qu'il put prospérer ainsi.

Sachons nous tenir dans la crainte de Dieu, et ne commettons pas l'iniquité. Craignons le mécontentement du Seigneur, plaçons notre espérance dans Sa Miséricorde, et marchons selon Ses préceptes !
