2 Corinthiens 4.7

(Cet Évangile est le trésor précieux qui nous a été confié.) Certes, nous portons ce trésor dans des vases de terre cuite, mais il faut qu’il en soit ainsi : cela prouve avec évidence que cette incomparable puissance vient de Dieu et non pas de nous.

7 à 18 Faiblesse et force des serviteurs de Dieu.

Grec : "Afin que l'excellence de cette puissance soit de Dieu et non de nous" Jusqu'ici l'apôtre a exposé les glorieuses prérogatives du ministère de la nouvelle alliance ; maintenant, il va en montrer une autre face : c'est dans la faiblesse et l'infirmité de ses serviteurs, dans leurs souffrances et leur mort graduelle, que cet Evangile prépare et accomplit ses victoires. (versets 8-12)

Par là, l'homme reste humilié et toute gloire revient à Dieu. Ce trésor immense d'un ministère de grâce et de lumière, nous le portons dans des vases de terre, juste image de cette faiblesse, de cette abjection naturelle, de ces dangers du corps et de l'âme auxquels les plus fidèles serviteurs de Dieu sont toujours exposés par les tentations, les combats du dedans et du dehors. Par là même il devient d'autant plus évident que cette grande puissance qu'exerce l'Evangile est de Dieu, non de l'homme.
