Le serpent d'airain (Nombres 21.8). On a douté que cet objet vénéré ait pu être conservé jusqu'à ce moment. Cependant nous ignorons trop les circonstances de ces temps pour nous permettre d'appliquer les expressions du récit à quelque objet fabriqué plus tard. Ce simulacre avait sans doute été conservé avec les autres objets appartenant au sanctuaire.

Néhusthan signifie : objet d'airain. Ce nom ne lui a pas été donné par Ezéchias, comme quelques-uns traduisent : Il donna. On ne donne pas un nom à un objet qu'on va détruire.
