World English Bible Aren't Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Couldn't I wash in them, and be clean?" So he turned and went away in a rage.

L'Abana : aujourd'hui le Nahr-Ba-rada (le Fleuve froid) que les Grecs appelaient Chrysorroas ou Fleuve d'or ; célèbre pour la pureté de ses eaux. Il sort d'une grotte de l'Antiliban à 25 km de Damas, traverse cette ville divisé en sept bras et va se jeter, 30 km environ plus à l'est, dans le lac le plus septentrional de la Syrie.

Le Parpar est probablement le Nahr-el-Awadj (le Tortueux) qui descend de l'Hermon et se jette dans un lac au sud-est de Damas.

Que toutes les eaux d'Israël. Le Jourdain sort limpide du lac de Génésareth, mais ne tarde pas à se troubler et prend une couleur brun-sale qui provient de la nature de son lit.

Par la simplicité de ce moyen, en lui-même inefficace, Naaman doit apprendre que la guérison proviendra d'une autre cause, supérieure à la nature, et qui agira en vertu de la parole de l'homme de Dieu.
