Très irrité. Mais tout en resta là. Il aurait dû, d'après la loi, punir le coupable de mort (Lévitique 18.9). Mais le souvenir de sa propre conduite le paralysait. Cette impunité ne fit que rendre plus implacable la haine d'Absalom.

Remarquez l'enchaînement et l'aggravation des problèmes, liés au péché d'Absalom : il serait parvenu à tuer Ammon, même si ce dernier eut été au bout du monde ! Il compromit ses domestiques dans sa culpabilité.

Ceux qui obéissent à de mauvais maîtres, à l'encontre des directives divines, sont de bien piètres serviteurs. Les enfants gâtés sont toujours de véritables « calvaires » pour les parents pieux : leur amour « aveugle » les mène à négliger le devoir que Dieu leur a assigné.
