Dans versets 8-14, il a dit surtout ce qui concernait la bête, il en vient maintenant à la femme. Les eaux sur lesquelles elle est assise (verset 1, 3e note) représentent les peuples divers sur lesquels Rome a étendu sa domination.
Ces rois constateront leur folie, comment ils ont été ensorcelés et asservis par la « prostituée », devenant ainsi les instruments de sa destruction. Quand Jean reçut cette vision, cette femme était cette grande ville, qui régnait sur les rois de la terre : dans cette description, chacun reconnaît Rome !
Quand les « méchants » seront détruits, de la manière la plus affreuse qui soit, les croyants seront reçus dans la Gloire du Seigneur ; ce rassemblement des pécheurs, sera animé par la haine et la colère : ils assisteront frénétiquement à leur tourment mutuel.
Mais « la part » du Seigneur est Son peuple : Son Conseil se tiendra, et accomplira tout Ses désirs, à Sa Gloire, pour le bonheur de tous Ses serviteurs !
