Chapitre 19.

1 à 10 Louanges à Dieu sur la chute de Babylone et sur les noces de l'Agneau.

Le texte reçu (minusc.) ajoute et l'honneur après la gloire.

Les chants qui retentissent dans le ciel (versets 1-10) célèbrent la ruine de Babylone (versets 1-5) et les noces de l'Agneau, qui marquent le triomphe du règne de Dieu. (versets 6-10) Ils forment ainsi la conclusion de la vision précédente et préparent la suivante.

La chute de Babylone était la dernière des sept plaies amenées par les sept coupes ; (Apocalypse 16.17) elle est le fait principal de cette vision et elle précède immédiatement le retour de Christ et les événements de la fin. (verset 11 et suivants)

- Le voyant entend comme une grande voix d'une foule immense. Ceux qui chantent ne sont pas visibles ; mais Jean perçoit les paroles qu'ils prononcent. Elles rappellent celles qui célèbrent la première défaite du dragon et de ses anges. (Apocalypse 12.10) Mais cette fois elles sont introduites par un : Alléluia ! "Louez Jéhova" dans lequel s'exprime la joie du ciel pour le triomphe de la justice de Dieu. (Apocalypse 18.20, note.)

Dans le livre des Psaumes aussi, la première fois qu'éclate un Alléluia, c'est après l'affirmation que "les pécheurs disparaîtront de la terre et que les méchants ne seront plus." (Psaumes 104.35) Mais leur disparition ne provoque les louanges des élus et des anges que parce qu'elle fait éclater la gloire et la puissance de Dieu, qu'elle établit son règne, (verset 6) et procure le salut à l'Eglise, qui devient l'épouse accomplie de l'Agneau. (versets 7,8)

Louer Dieu pour ce que nous avons, c'est prier pour ce qui sera encore fait pour nous !

Dans le chant triomphant de ce texte, il y a une certaine harmonie entre les anges et les saints. Christ est « l'Époux » de son église, convoitée par ses ennemis. Cette seconde union, (par rapport à la première de la période apostolique) sera achevée dans le ciel ; mais le commencement du millénaire glorieux (par lequel est désigné le règne de Christ, ou un état de félicité, de mille ans sur terre) peut être considéré comme la célébration de son adoption sur terre : l'église de Christ, étant purifiée des erreurs, des divisions et des corruptions, en ce qui concerne la doctrine, la discipline, l'adoration, et ses différentes pratiques, sera préparée, pour être offerte au Seigneur publiquement, en tant qu’épouse, à la fois source de joie et bien-aimée !

L'église est apparue, non pas vêtue de la robe éclatante et voyante de la « grande prostituée », mais parée de fin lin, propre et blanc : la robe de la Justice de Christ, celle de la justification, impartie pour sa sanctification.

Les promesses de l'évangile, les véritables et saintes ordonnances de Dieu, appliquées et scellées par Son Esprit, contribuent à la célébration de ce mariage. Ceci semble se référer à la Grâce abondante et à la consolation que recevront les chrétiens lorsqu’ils connaîtront la félicité céleste à venir.

L'apôtre Jean voulut honorer l'ange. Ce dernier refusa, afin de conduire l'apôtre vers le véritable et unique but de l'adoration religieuse : Dieu, et Lui seul. Ceci condamne clairement la pratique de ceux qui adorent les éléments de la cène (le pain et le vin), les saints, et les anges, et de ceux qui ne croient pas que Christ est vraiment et par nature, DIEU, bien qu’ils leur vouent un certain respect : toutes ces personnes sont déclarées coupables d'idolâtrie par le messager céleste du verset Apocalypse 19:10. Ce dernier annonce la véritable Parole de Dieu : « Adore Dieu. Car le témoignage de Jésus est l'esprit de la prophétie ».
