Reviens, reviens... ! Cette prière, quatre fois répétée, prouve que Sulammith, en prononçant les dernières paroles, s'est mise a fuir, comme si elle voulait échapper, en ce moment même, aux gens du cortège qui l'ont remarquée et la poursuivent. Les jeunes filles qui l'admirent veulent l'arrêter et la contempler à loisir. Sulammith s'étonne de l'admiration dont une pauvre villageoise, comme elle, est l'objet.
