Deutéronome 12.12

Vous vous réjouirez... Le caractère joyeux du culte est un des traits distinctifs de la législation du Deutéronome : 14.26 ; 16.11 ; 26.11 ; 27.7.

Et le Lévite qui sera dans vos portes : qui habitera dans l'enceinte de vos villes. Il ne s'agit point ici de la dîme que l'Israélite doit payer au Lévite pour son entretien ordinaire, mais des voyages au sanctuaire et des repas qui s'y célèbrent ; ce sont des fêtes de famille auxquelles le Lévite doit aussi être invité à prendre part. C'est une affaire, non de justice, mais de bienveillance, comme pour les serviteurs et les servantes qui font partie de la maison.

Il n'a pas reçu de portion. Comparez 10.9 ; Nombres 18.20-23. C'était bien peu de chose que les banlieues dont parle Nombres 35.3 ; c'était un terrain de pâture pour le bétail, plutôt que de culture.

Ceci s'adresse avant tout aux habitants des quarante-huit, villes qui seront désignées pour l'habitation des Lévites, puis aussi à ceux des autres villes où par différentes raisons des Lévites pourront se fixer ; voir Nombres 35.4, note.

Deutéronome 12.1-32

Segond 21 C'est là que vous vous réjouirez devant l'Eternel, votre Dieu, vous, vos fils et vos filles, vos esclaves et vos servantes, ainsi que le Lévite qui habitera dans ta ville. En effet, il n'a ni part ni héritage avec vous.
