Vous détruirez... Ordre déjà donné 7.5 et répété ici pour préparer le contraste de l'ordre suivant (verset 4).

Hautes montagnes. C'est une tendance naturelle, qui se retrouve chez tous les peuples anciens et, modernes, de rechercher comme lieux de culte les endroits les plus rapprochés du ciel.

Sous tout arbre vert : soit parce que ces arbres offraient un ombrage agréable particulièrement en Orient, soit parce qu'ils favorisaient les mystères impurs. En fait d'arbres verts on choisissait de préférence le chêne, le peuplier, le térébinthe (voir Osée 4.13 et Esaïe 1.29, note). Ces usages païens persistèrent en Israël et furent souvent condamnés par les prophètes (Esaïe 57.7 ; Jérémie 2.20 ; 3.6 ; 2Rois 16.4).
