On voit, par l'histoire des fils de Jacob en Egypte, combien Benjamin était particulièrement cher à son père, comme fils de Rachel, l'épouse bien-aimée, et comme le fils cadet. C'est comme tel qu'il est resté aussi, malgré sa petitesse, la tribu favorite de l'Eternel. Sans doute. son histoire subséquente ne justifierait guère ce titre, s'il lui avait été donné postérieurement. Il faudrait l'expliquer, dans le cas de la composition très postérieure de notre chapitre par le fait que Jérusalem et le temple étaient situés dans le territoire de cette tribu.Il habite en assurance auprès de lui, littéralement : sur lui. Cette expression a été prise dans le sens local et appliquée au fait que le temple fut bâti sur le territoire de Benjamin ; mais elle peut s'entendre aussi dans un sens purement spirituel.Il repose entre ses épaules. Le il peut se rapporter à Benjamin, qui serait ici comparé à un enfant que son père porte sur son dos, ou bien ce il peut désigner l'Eternel, en ce sens que Dieu serait présenté comme résidant entre les épaules, c'est-à-dire entre les collines de Benjamin. Ce dernier sens est peu naturel, parce que le temple était situé, non entre les collines (dans la vallée), mais sur l'une des collines. Et l'image de l'Eternel reposant sur les épaules de Benjamin serait bien étrange, tandis que celle de Benjamin reposant sur les épaules de l'Eternel se comprend aisément ; comparez Exode 19.4. On voit, par l'histoire des fils de Jacob en Egypte, combien Benjamin était particulièrement cher à son père, comme fils de Rachel, l'épouse bien-aimée, et comme le fils cadet. C'est comme tel qu'il est resté aussi, malgré sa petitesse, la tribu favorite de l'Eternel. Sans doute. son histoire subséquente ne justifierait guère ce titre, s'il lui avait été donné postérieurement. Il faudrait l'expliquer, dans le cas de la composition très postérieure de notre chapitre par le fait que Jérusalem et le temple étaient situés dans le territoire de cette tribu.Il habite en assurance auprès de lui, littéralement : sur lui. Cette expression a été prise dans le sens local et appliquée au fait que le temple fut bâti sur le territoire de Benjamin ; mais elle peut s'entendre aussi dans un sens purement spirituel.Il repose entre ses épaules. Le il peut se rapporter à Benjamin, qui serait ici comparé à un enfant que son père porte sur son dos, ou bien ce il peut désigner l'Eternel, en ce sens que Dieu serait présenté comme résidant entre les épaules, c'est-à-dire entre les collines de Benjamin. Ce dernier sens est peu naturel, parce que le temple était situé, non entre les collines (dans la vallée), mais sur l'une des collines. Et l'image de l'Eternel reposant sur les épaules de Benjamin serait bien étrange, tandis que celle de Benjamin reposant sur les épaules de l'Eternel se comprend aisément ; comparez Exode 19.4.
