On pourrait être tenté de rendre Dieu responsable de cette universalité du péché et de l'extrême rareté du bien dans le monde. L'Ecclésiaste, avant de terminer, veut repousser une semblable conclusion. Dieu a créé l'homme droit, à son image ; et même depuis la chute il lui reste une conscience (Romains 2.15). Si les hommes sont si facilement séduits et se laissent en particulier si facilement prendre par les artifices de la femme, c'est que leurs passions leur suggèrent de fausses excuses (Jérémie 17.9). Ils abandonnent la simplicité dont parle 2Corinthiens 11.3. Comme Eve, ils écoutent, la voix du mensonge (Jacques 1.13-14).
