Ecclésiaste 8.12

Bien que le pécheur fasse le mal cent fois, et qu'il y persévère longtemps, cependant je sais aussi qu'il y aura du bonheur pour ceux qui craignent Dieu, qui craignent devant sa face.

Se trouveront bien, une fois ou l'autre, mais pour toujours. Si Dieu, dit saint Jérôme, a tant de bonté pour les méchants qui l'offensent continuellement, s'il les attend à pénitence avec autant de miséricorde, s'il leur laisse, après tant de crimes, le loisir de se reconnaître, que ne fera-t-il pas pour ses serviteurs fidèles ?

D'avoir craint devant la face de Dieu. Voici littéralement la fin du verset 12 : Je sais cependant que bien sera à ceux qui craignent Dieu, lesquels ont de la crainte devant sa face. Il y a ici une tautologie intentionnelle : bien sera aux véritables fidèles. On peut rapprocher de cette manière de dire l'expression de Paul : les veuves vraiment veuves (1Timothée 5.3).
