You said in your heart, "I will ascend into heaven! I will exalt my throne above the stars of God! I will sit on the mountain of assembly, in the far north!

World English Bible You said in your heart, "I will ascend into heaven! I will exalt my throne above the stars of God! I will sit on the mountain of assembly, in the far north!

La montagne de l'assemblée : la montagne sacrée, séjour des dieux, que les peuples orientaux plaçaient dans l'extrême nord, au pôle, les Indous la nommaient Méru, les Perses AI-Bordj ; c'est l'Olympe des Grecs. Luther et Calvin traduisent fautivement : montagne de l'alliance ou du témoignage et entendent par cette expression (d'après Psaumes 48.3) la montagne de Sion, où le roi de Babylone prétendrait faire sa résidence. Le sens est que le monarque veut être l'égal des dieux ; prétention qu'on retrouve partout chez les païens. Les rois d'Assyrie, dans leurs inscriptions, ceux de Perse, sur leurs monnaies, se disaient fils des dieux, Alexandre en Egypte se fit appeler fils de Jupiter-Ammon ; les empereurs romains se faisaient rendre un culte. Comparez Daniel 6.7 et suivants ; Ezéchiel 28.2 ; Actes 12.21-23.
