Le matin vient : il y aura donc un adoucissement à votre position ; mais la nuit aussi : de nouveaux malheurs vous attendent. C'est tout ce que le prophète peut leur dire. Par le matin, il faut entendre sans doute le soulagement momentané qui suivit, pour la Palestine et les Etats voisins, le désastre de Sanchérib. Mais la nuit revint bien vite : les incursions assyriennes dans le midi se renouvelèrent sous ses successeurs ; et Edom eut plus tard à subir la domination des Chaldéens, des Perses et des Romains. Dès l'époque de la seconde ruine de Jérusalem, son nom disparaît de l'histoire.

Faites des questions... revenez... Il y a certainement dans ces mots une intention ironique qui se trahit par la répétition de la terminaison insolite ajou (dans les quatre verbes hébreux) : le prophète contrefait le langage des Edomites.
