Le Liban (la forêt inculte) changé en verger, et le verger en forêt : image d'une transformation complète. Le sens de cette image est expliquée dans les versets 18 à 21. Ce qui est petit sera élevé, et ce qui est élevé sera abaissé (Luc 1.52). De cette révolution sortira un peuple renouvelé (comparez 32.15-20).

Les merveilleux changements prédits dans ce texte, peuvent se rapporter au devenir de Juda, bien qu'ils concernent en fait un avenir plus lointain. Quand la « grande moisson » des âmes, parmi les « Gentils », sera recueillie par Christ, alors le désert sera changé en un champ fertile ; quant à l'assemblée religieuse des Juifs, celle qui fut longtemps florissante, elle sera rendue semblable à une forêt abandonnée. Ceux qui, quand dans l'épreuve, trouvent encore le courage de se réjouir en Dieu, connaîtront bientôt une plénitude parfaite en Lui !

L'humilité contribue à la croissance de notre joie dans le Seigneur. La vigueur de nos ennemis, autrefois puissants, deviendra alors tout à fait quelconque et ridicule. L'avènement du repos des enfants de Dieu, sera parfait lorsque les Jugements divins retrancheront les pécheurs. Ces derniers sont capables en permanence de parler avec arrogance, et de mal interpréter ce qu'ils entendent ; il est cependant prématuré de mal juger sévèrement un homme sur une mauvaise parole qu'il aurait prononcée par mégarde.

Les hommes mentionnés dans ce texte, faisaient tout leur possible pour affliger ceux qui dénonçaient leur iniquité. Mais Celui qui a protégé Abraham de tous les pièges et problèmes rencontrés durant sa vie, rachètera ceux qui sont, par la foi, véritablement les descendants spirituels du patriarche.

Il n'y a rien de plus réconfortant pour des parents pieux, que de voir leurs enfants « naître de nouveau », grâce au pouvoir de la Miséricorde divine.

Que ceux qui errent dans une fausse spiritualité, tout en murmurant contre la « Vérité », puissent être interpelés, et connaître la véritable doctrine. L'Esprit de vérité saura leur révéler leurs erreurs, et les mener dans toute cette « Vérité ».

Ceci devrait nous encourager à prier pour ceux qui errent çà et là, allant de déception en déception. Tous ceux qui murmurent contre les vérités divines, ou qui tiennent à ce sujet des propos diffamatoires, devront prendre conscience tôt ou tard, des desseins divins. Remarquez les changements opérés par la piété, dans le cœur des hommes, ainsi que la paix et la plénitude que la dévotion et l'humilité procurent !
