Israël n'a donc aucun mérite à faire valoir : il n'a attiré sur lui que des châtiments. Mais son Dieu maintenant lui pardonne.

C'est moi qui efface.... L'image est celle d'un livre dans lequel les fautes de l'homme sont enregistrées (Daniel 7.10 ; Apocalypse 20.12).

Pour l'amour de moi : Dieu consent à les en effacer pour l'amour de lui-même, c'est-à-dire, non pas à cause d'Israël, qui n'est pas digne de cette grâce, mais pour sa propre gloire, qui serait compromise par la perdition définitive de son peuple (Exode 32.11-13 ; Nombres 14.13-21).
