Esdras sera porteur d'abord de dons volontaires du roi et de ses conseillers pour le culte du Dieu d'Israël, puis du produit d'une souscription faite par lui dans le même but parmi la population non israélite de la province de Babylone (comparez 1.4) et enfin des dons volontaires des Israélites qui ne l'accompagneront pas. Dans 8.25 sera indiqué le produit de la première et de la troisième de ces sources de richesses.
