Grec : "Être coupés," éloignés du corps de l'Eglise par une opération violente. (Il y a peut-être dans ces mots une allusion à l'opération de la circoncision qu'ils voulaient imposer aux croyants.) L'apôtre parle ailleurs encore de cette exclusion sévère qu'il désire ici. (1Corinthiens 5.5, note ; 1Timothée 1.20)

D'autres pensent qu'ils doivent être retranchés par Dieu.

D'autres enfin, insistant sur ce que le verbe n'est pas au passif, mais au moyen, qui a un sens réfléchi, traduisent : "Qu'ils se mutilent !"
