Retournèrent au pays des Philistins. Cette notice paraît contradictoire avec le verset 34, qui place Béerséba dans le pays des Philistins. Mais il faut sans doute distinguer entre le pays des Philistins proprement dit, situé près de la côte et où résidait Abimélek, et le pays des Philistins au sens large, comprenant les steppes de l'intérieur où se trouvait Béerséba. Le verset 23 prouve en tout cas qu'Abimélek regardait Béerséba comme faisant partie de ses domaines.
