Mais le point culminant de cet accomplissement, le comble de l'obéissance du Sauveur, c'est l'offrande de son corps, son sacrifice sur la croix. Ce n'est pas pour lui-même, en effet, que Jésus Christ accomplit ainsi la volonté de Dieu ; il était venu dans le monde afin de l'accomplir au sein de notre humanité rebelle, et pour notre humanité.
Chaque individu de cette humanité qui s'unit à Christ par une foi vivante devient par là même participant des fruits de cette obéissance, comme s'il l'avait lui-même offerte à Dieu. Bien plus, il entre réellement dans cette obéissance en se consacrant à Dieu en Jésus-Christ. Membre du corps de Christ, il passe partout où a passé son Chef, pour parvenir là où il est. Aussi l'auteur dit il littéralement : "c'est dans cette volonté que nous sommes sanctifiés."
Rien de plus remarquable que l'insistance avec laquelle notre épître revient sur ce sacrifice unique du Sauveur, afin d'en bien établir la parfaite suffisance et d'exclure à jamais tout autre sacrifice pour le péché. (Hébreux 10.12,14 ; 7.27 ; 9.12,25,26,28, note.)
