World English Bible Therefore thus says Yahweh, Behold, I will bring evil on them, which they shall not be able to escape; and they shall cry to me, but I will not listen to them.

Dont ils ne pourront sortir. Ces mots signifient non seulement qu'ils n'échapperont pas, mais qu'ils demeureront longtemps sous le coup du châtiment.

Le mal poursuit les pécheurs, ils s'empêtrent alors dans différents pièges, dont ils ne peuvent se libérer. Dans leur détresse, tous leurs autels et leurs différents dieux ne leur sont alors guère utiles !

Ceux dont les prières ne sont pas « entendues » par le ciel, ne doivent pas s'attendre à bénéficier de celles des autres. Leur prétendue piété sera alors complètement inutile ! Quand l'épreuve les surprend, ils tentent de placer leur confiance en une fausse religion, mais Dieu les rejette alors. Ils auront beau mentionner leur soi-disant appartenance au Seigneur, mais ils n'auront aucun argument favorable en leur faveur.

Chaque péché commis contre Dieu se retourne en fait contre nous, avec toutes les conséquences que cela implique.
