Qu'est-ce que mon bien-aimé a à faire dans ma maison, que tant de gens se servent d'elle pour y faire leurs complots ? la chair sainte est transportée loin de toi, et encore quand tu fais mal, tu t'égayes.

Pour rendre le texte de ce verset intelligible, les Septante y avaient déjà apporté quelques modifications, et leur exemple est généralement suivi. Nous n'avons pas cru nécessaire de recourir à ce moyen. Dans ce verset, Jérémie reproche à Israël d'allier les formes extérieures de la religion à une vie de péché ; comparez avec le chapitre 7.

Ma bien-aimée : la fille de Sion ; comparez l'expression correspondante appliquée à Dieu, Esaïe 5.1.

Des machinations ! Ils viennent dans le temple délibérer, sur quoi ? Sur de nouveaux crimes à commettre, et cela tout en offrant leurs vœux et leurs sacrifices (la chair sacrée).
