Ces deux tantôt, versets 7 et 9, marquent bien que la conduite de Dieu envers l'homme est déterminée par celle de l'homme envers Dieu. Quand Dieu change, c'est que l'homme a changé. Mais Dieu ne change qu'en apparence ; car cette nouvelle manière d'agir résulte de l'immutabilité même de sa nature.

D'arracher... Pour les verbes employés ici, ainsi qu'au verset 9, comparez 1.10. Le premier cas, indiqué versets 7 et 8, s'était produit à Ninive lors de la mission de Jonas ; le second, versets 9 et 10, était plus particulièrement celui du peuple d'Israël. Mais ces règles du gouvernement divin sont données ici comme générales.
