Comme l'aigle qui plane un instant sur sa proie, puis s'abat brusquement sur elle, ainsi le conquérant, après avoir médité à Hesbon ses plans de conquête (verset 2), va fondre sur Moab.

Cyrus, dans Esaïe 46.11, et Nébucadnetsar, dans Ezéchiel 17.3, sont comparés à des aigles. Ici, comme dans 46.18, Nébucadnetsar n'est pas nommé. Cette image est reproduite 49.22, à propos d'Edom.
