וְאָמַרְתָּ֗ יְהוָה֙ אַתָּ֨ה דִבַּ֜רְתָּ אֶל־הַמָּק֤וֹם הַזֶּה֙ לְהַכְרִית֔וֹ לְבִלְתִּ֤י הֱיֽוֹת־בּוֹ֙ יוֹשֵׁ֔ב לְמֵאָדָ֖ם וְעַד־בְּהֵמָ֑ה כִּֽי־שִׁמְמ֥וֹת עוֹלָ֖ם תִּֽהְיֶֽה׃

Segond 21 et tu diras : ‘Eternel, c'est toi qui as déclaré que cet endroit serait rayé de la carte et qu'il ne serait plus habité ni par les hommes ni par les bêtes, mais qu'il deviendrait un désert pour toujours.’

World English Bible and say, Yahweh, you have spoken concerning this place, to cut it off, that none shall dwell therein, neither man nor animal, but that it shall be desolate forever.

Faire lecture : non sans doute devant les Chaldéens, ce qui eût exposé le lecteur et les autres Juifs à un danger inutile.

Cette lecture était un appel à la fidélité divine dans le lieu même où ses menaces devaient un jour s'accomplir.

      Esaïe 13

      19 Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldeans' pride, will be like when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
      20 It will never be inhabited, neither will it be lived in from generation to generation. The Arabian will not pitch a tent there, neither will shepherds make their flocks lie down there.
      21 But wild animals of the desert will lie there, and their houses will be full of jackals. Ostriches will dwell there, and wild goats will frolic there.
