Bildad décrit dans ce texte le sort qui est réservé aux méchants dans l'au-delà, et qui, dans une certaine mesure, les saisit souvent ici-bas. La voie du péché est celle de la crainte, elle mène à une confusion permanente : la terreur au jour le jour d'une conscience impure, comme en leur temps, Caïn et Judas l'ont éprouvé. La mort du méchant est en effet bien misérable, alors qu'il se croyait en sécurité toute sa vie durant. Avez-vous vu un tel homme mourir ? Tous les fondements sur lesquels il s'appuyait lui sont ôtés. Par contre, que les saints sont heureux, de quelle dette ils sont redevables au Seigneur Jésus, par lequel la mort est maintenant abolie ; le Roi des rois, disposant d'un jugement terrifiant, est maintenant pour les rachetés, un Ami et un Serviteur !

Remarquez à quel point la famille du méchant est abaissée et disséminée ! Ses enfants périront, avec lui ou après lui. Ceux qui respectent le véritable honneur de leur famille et qui jouissent de son bien-être, seront effrayés à l'idée de tout détruire par le péché. Les jugements de Dieu suivent le méchant après sa mort, preuve de la misère qui attend son âme dans l'au delà, de la honte et du mépris éternels qui lui sont réservés au jour du jugement. La mémoire du juste est bénie, mais le nom du méchant tombera en pourriture, Proverbes 10:7.

Il serait souhaitable que cette description du méchant puisse faire réfléchir celui-ci en vue de le sauver de la colère à venir, car aucune puissance politique ni les richesses d'ici-bas ne pourront alors le sauver.

Mais Jésus vit éternellement pour délivrer tous ceux qui placent leur confiance en Lui. Supportez les épreuves, amis croyants ! Vous pourrez pour un peu de temps être éprouvés, mais votre Bien Aimé Sauveur ne vous quittera pas des yeux ; vos cœurs se réjouiront, et personne ne pourra vous ravir cette joie.
