21 à 30 Eliphaz semble maintenant vouloir atténuer la rudesse de ses accusations. C'est son dernier discours : il veut laisser une impression favorable. De fait, il est le plus humain des trois amis.

Job, selon Eliphaz, a déclaré la guerre à Dieu, surtout par son dernier discours ; il faut qu'il fasse la paix avec lui (Matthieu 5.25).

La réponse d'Éliphaz laisse entendre à tort que Job n'avait pas de relation profonde avec Dieu et que la prospérité de la vie du patriarche reviendrait dès que ce dernier aurait expérimenté une sincère conversion. Le conseil qu'Éliphaz donne ici est profitable, bien que dans le cas de Job, il s'avère que tout soit bâti sur une fausse hypothèse : Job serait en fait un étranger et un ennemi de Dieu.

Prenons garde de ne pas calomnier nos frères ; si toutefois nous sommes victimes de tels propos, souvenons-nous de l'histoire de Job ; rappelons-nous ce que Jésus a souffert et que cela puisse nous armer de patience !

Examinons si les calomnies que nous pouvons entendre ne sont pas fausses, marchons avec vigilance, pour discerner toutes les apparences possibles du mal !
