Job, en priant pour ses amis (littéralement : pour son ami : Eliphaz, verset 7 ; ou bien : pour son prochain), avant même d'être lui-même guéri, donne une nouvelle preuve du désintéressement de sa piété (1.9). Ce n'est que pendant sa prière, au moment où il ajoute la charité à la foi, qu'il est délivré de sa terrible épreuve.

Donna à Job le double (verset 12) : peu à peu, et non pas en une fois.

Au commencement de ce livre nous avons vu la patience de Job, malgré toutes ses épreuves endurées : cela devrait être un réel exemple pour nous; pour notre encourager à suivre cet exemple, le livre nous conte la fin heureuse de cette histoire. Les ennuis du patriarche ont commencé à cause de la méchanceté de Satan, que Dieu a néanmoins retenue ; Job a été restauré à cause de la miséricorde divine, à laquelle Satan ne pouvait pas s'opposer. Cette miséricorde ne s'est pas exercée quand Job contestait avec ses amis, mais quand il s'est mis à prier pour eux. Dieu est glorifié et satisfait par nos ardentes dévotions, et non par nos conflits violents. Dieu a doublé les biens que Job possédait. Nous pouvons sacrifier beaucoup pour le Seigneur, mais il ne s'agira pas de pertes inconsidérées. Si le Seigneur nous donne la santé et certaines bénédictions temporelles, si nous souffrons patiemment selon Sa volonté, en fin de compte, le tout contribuera à nous rendre heureux. Les possessions de Job se sont accrues. Les bénédictions du Seigneur procurent la richesse ; c'est Lui qui nous donne la force d'acquérir l'aisance, et qui nous accorde le succès, dans l'honnêteté. Les derniers jours d'un homme bon révèlent parfois la nature de son cœur, ses dernières œuvres sont les meilleures, les réconforts qu'il a pu alors apporter sont les plus positifs ; car son cheminement, comme celui de la lumière matinale, brille de plus en plus, vers l'issue finale parfaite.
