20 à 23 L'auteur fait ressortir ici cette idée, qui était déjà celle du discours de l'ange à Bokim, que si l'Eternel n'a pas voulu détruire les nations cananéennes et les peuples voisins, ce n'est pas qu'il fût devenu infidèle à son alliance et à ses promesses, mais à cause de cette infidélité constamment renouvelée de son peuple, laquelle empêchait qu'il ne lui accordât enfin une délivrance complète, en sorte que c'était toujours à recommencer.
