Les impies. Ce sont les païens, et particulièrement les conquérants, ennemis acharnés d'Israël, dont la prospérité contraste avec le misérable état du peuple de Dieu.

Et en faisant le mal... ils ont beau tenter Dieu. Il y a une gradation dans ces deux membres de phrase : ils font le mal, pourtant ils réussissent ; bien plus, ils tentent Dieu, ils s'exposent comme à plaisir aux effets de sa colère, et ils échappent toujours. Et c'est ainsi qu'en célébrant le bonheur des impies, ces Juifs que Malachie met en scène deviennent impies eux-mêmes.
