World English Bible However, knowing this, Jesus said to them, "Why do you trouble the woman? Because she has done a good work for me.

Jésus ressent, dans sa vive sympathie, la peine que ces murmures durent faire à Marie ; et pour la justifier, il déclare bonne (grec belle), moralement excellente, l'œuvre qu'elle vient de faire, par cela seul qu'elle procède de la vénération et de l'amour pour lui. Toute œuvre, au contraire, qui n'a pas pour mobile ces sentiments du cœur, ne saurait être bonne.
