  1 It happened, when Yahweh would take up Elijah by a whirlwind into heaven, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
  
  2 Elijah said to Elisha, "Please wait here, for Yahweh has sent me as far as Bethel." Elisha said, "As Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you." So they went down to Bethel.
  
  3 The sons of the prophets who were at Bethel came out to Elisha, and said to him, "Do you know that Yahweh will take away your master from your head today?" He said, "Yes, I know it; hold your peace."
  
  4 Elijah said to him, "Elisha, please wait here, for Yahweh has sent me to Jericho." He said, "As Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you." So they came to Jericho.
  
  5 The sons of the prophets who were at Jericho came near to Elisha, and said to him, "Do you know that Yahweh will take away your master from your head today?" He answered, "Yes, I know it. Hold your peace."
  
  6 Elijah said to him, "Please wait here, for Yahweh has sent me to the Jordan." He said, "As Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you." They both went on.
  
  7 Fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood opposite them at a distance; and they both stood by the Jordan.
  
  8 Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and struck the waters, and they were divided here and there, so that they two went over on dry ground.
  
  9 It happened, when they had gone over, that Elijah said to Elisha, "Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you." Elisha said, "Please let a double portion of your spirit be on me."
  
  10 He said, "You have asked a hard thing. If you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so."
  
  11 It happened, as they still went on, and talked, that behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
  
  12 Elisha saw it, and he cried, "My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!" He saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and tore them in two pieces.
  
  13 He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of the Jordan.
  
  14 He took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and struck the waters, and said, "Where is Yahweh, the God of Elijah?" When he also had struck the waters, they were divided here and there; and Elisha went over.
  
  15 When the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho over against him saw him, they said, "The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha." They came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.
  
  16 They said to him, "See now, there are with your servants fifty strong men. Please let them go and seek your master. Perhaps the Spirit of Yahweh has taken him up, and put him on some mountain, or into some valley. He said, "You shall not send them."
  
  17 When they urged him until he was ashamed, he said, "Send them." They sent therefore fifty men; and they searched for three days, but didn't find him.
  
  18 They came back to him, while he stayed at Jericho; and he said to them, "Didn't I tell you, 'Don't go?'"
  
  19 The men of the city said to Elisha, "Behold, please, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees; but the water is bad, and the land miscarries."
  
  20 He said, "Bring me a new jar, and put salt in it." They brought it to him.
  
  21 He went out to the spring of the waters, and threw salt into it, and said, "Thus says Yahweh, 'I have healed these waters. There shall not be from there any more death or miscarrying.'"
  
  22 So the waters were healed to this day, according to the word of Elisha which he spoke.
  
  23 He went up from there to Bethel. As he was going up by the way, some youths came out of the city and mocked him, and said to him, "Go up, you baldy! Go up, you baldhead!"
  
  24 He looked behind him and saw them, and cursed them in the name of Yahweh. Two female bears came out of the woods, and mauled forty-two of those youths.
  
  25 He went from there to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.

  1 Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.
  
  2 He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, but not like his father, and like his mother; for he put away the pillar of Baal that his father had made.
  
  3 Nevertheless he held to the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin; he didn't depart from it.
  
  4 Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep breeder; and he rendered to the king of Israel the wool of one hundred thousand lambs, and of one hundred thousand rams.
  
  5 But it happened, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.
  
  6 King Jehoram went out of Samaria at that time, and mustered all Israel.
  
  7 He went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, "The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me against Moab to battle?" He said, "I will go up. I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses."
  
  8 He said, "Which way shall we go up?" He answered, "The way of the wilderness of Edom."
  
  9 So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom; and they made a circuit of seven days' journey. There was no water for the army, nor for the animals that followed them.
  
  10 The king of Israel said, "Alas! For Yahweh has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab."
  
  11 But Jehoshaphat said, "Isn't there here a prophet of Yahweh, that we may inquire of Yahweh by him?" One of the king of Israel's servants answered, "Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah."
  
  12 Jehoshaphat said, "The word of Yahweh is with him." So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.
  
  13 Elisha said to the king of Israel, "What have I to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father, and to the prophets of your mother." The king of Israel said to him, "No; for Yahweh has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab."
  
  14 Elisha said, "As Yahweh of Armies lives, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I respect the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward you, nor see you.
  
  15 But now bring me a minstrel." It happened, when the minstrel played, that the hand of Yahweh came on him.
  
  16 He said, "Thus says Yahweh, 'Make this valley full of trenches.'
  
  17 For thus says Yahweh, 'You will not see wind, neither will you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, and you will drink, both you and your livestock and your animals.
  
  18 This is but a light thing in the sight of Yahweh. He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand.
  
  19 You shall strike every fortified city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all springs of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.'"
  
  20 It happened in the morning, about the time of offering the offering, that behold, water came by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.
  
  21 Now when all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them, they gathered themselves together, all who were able to put on armor, and upward, and stood on the border.
  
  22 They rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone on the water, and the Moabites saw the water over against them as red as blood.
  
  23 They said, "This is blood. The kings are surely destroyed, and they have struck each other. Now therefore, Moab, to the spoil!"
  
  24 When they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and struck the Moabites, so that they fled before them; and they went forward into the land smiting the Moabites.
  
  25 They beat down the cities; and on every good piece of land they cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the springs of water, and felled all the good trees, until in Kir Hareseth only they left its stones; however the men armed with slings went about it, and struck it.
  
  26 When the king of Moab saw that the battle was too severe for him, he took with him seven hundred men who drew sword, to break through to the king of Edom; but they could not.
  
  27 Then he took his eldest son who would have reigned in his place, and offered him for a burnt offering on the wall. There was great wrath against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.

  1 Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets to Elisha, saying, "Your servant my husband is dead. You know that your servant feared Yahweh. Now the creditor has come to take for himself my two children to be slaves."
  
  2 Elisha said to her, "What shall I do for you? Tell me: what do you have in the house?" She said, "Your handmaid has nothing in the house, except a pot of oil."
  
  3 Then he said, "Go, borrow containers from of all your neighbors, even empty containers. Don't borrow just a few.
  
  4 You shall go in, and shut the door on you and on your sons, and pour out into all those containers; and you shall set aside that which is full."
  
  5 So she went from him, and shut the door on her and on her sons; they brought the containers to her, and she poured out.
  
  6 It happened, when the containers were full, that she said to her son, "Bring me another container." He said to her, "There isn't another container." The oil stopped flowing.
  
  7 Then she came and told the man of God. He said, "Go, sell the oil, and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest."
  
  8 It fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where there was a prominent woman; and she persuaded him to eat bread. So it was, that as often as he passed by, he turned in there to eat bread.
  
  9 She said to her husband, "See now, I perceive that this is a holy man of God, that passes by us continually.
  
  10 Please let us make a little room on the wall. Let us set for him there a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp stand. It shall be, when he comes to us, that he shall turn in there."
  
  11 One day he came there, and he turned into the room and lay there.
  
  12 He said to Gehazi his servant, "Call this Shunammite." When he had called her, she stood before him.
  
  13 He said to him, "Say now to her, 'Behold, you have cared for us with all this care. What is to be done for you? Would you like to be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the army?'" She answered, "I dwell among my own people."
  
  14 He said, "What then is to be done for her?" Gehazi answered, "Most certainly she has no son, and her husband is old."
  
  15 He said, "Call her." When he had called her, she stood in the door.
  
  16 He said, "At this season, when the time comes around, you will embrace a son." She said, "No, my lord, you man of God, do not lie to your handmaid."
  
  17 The woman conceived, and bore a son at that season, when the time came around, as Elisha had said to her.
  
  18 When the child was grown, it happened one day that he went out to his father to the reapers.
  
  19 He said to his father, "My head! My head!" He said to his servant, "Carry him to his mother."
  
  20 When he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees until noon, and then died.
  
  21 She went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door on him, and went out.
  
  22 She called to her husband, and said, "Please send me one of the servants, and one of the donkeys, that I may run to the man of God, and come again."
  
  23 He said, "Why would you want go to him today? It is neither new moon nor Sabbath." She said, "It's alright."
  
  24 Then she saddled a donkey, and said to her servant, "Drive, and go forward! Don't slow down for me, unless I ask you to."
  
  25 So she went, and came to the man of God to Mount Carmel. It happened, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to Gehazi his servant, "Behold, there is the Shunammite.
  
  26 Please run now to meet her, and ask her, 'Is it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with the child?'" She answered, "It is well."
  
  27 When she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught hold of his feet. Gehazi came near to thrust her away; but the man of God said, "Leave her alone; for her soul is troubled within her; and Yahweh has hidden it from me, and has not told me."
  
  28 Then she said, "Did I desire a son of my lord? Didn't I say, Do not deceive me?"
  
  29 Then he said to Gehazi, "Tuck your cloak into your belt, take my staff in your hand, and go your way. If you meet any man, don't greet him; and if anyone greets you, don't answer him again. Then lay my staff on the face of the child."
  
  30 The mother of the child said, "As Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you." He arose, and followed her.
  
  31 Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff on the face of the child; but there was neither voice, nor hearing. Therefore he returned to meet him, and told him, saying, "The child has not awakened."
  
  32 When Elisha had come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid on his bed.
  
  33 He went in therefore, and shut the door on them both, and prayed to Yahweh.
  
  34 He went up, and lay on the child, and put his mouth on his mouth, and his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands. He stretched himself on him; and the flesh of the child grew warm.
  
  35 Then he returned, and walked in the house once back and forth; and went up, and stretched himself on him. Then the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.
  
  36 He called Gehazi, and said, "Call this Shunammite!" So he called her. When she had come in to him, he said, "Take up your son."
  
  37 Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground; and she took up her son, and went out.
  
  38 Elisha came again to Gilgal. There was a famine in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him; and he said to his servant, "Set on the great pot, and boil stew for the sons of the prophets."
  
  39 One went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered of it wild gourds his lap full, and came and shred them into the pot of stew; for they didn't recognize them.
  
  40 So they poured out for the men to eat. It happened, as they were eating of the stew, that they cried out, and said, "Man of God, there is death in the pot!" They could not eat of it.
  
  41 But he said, "Then bring meal." He cast it into the pot; and he said, "Pour out for the people, that they may eat." There was no harm in the pot.
  
  42 A man from Baal Shalishah came, and brought the man of God bread of the first fruits, twenty loaves of barley, and fresh ears of grain in his sack. He said, "Give to the people, that they may eat."
  
  43 His servant said, "What, should I set this before a hundred men?" But he said, "Give the people, that they may eat; for thus says Yahweh, 'They will eat, and will have some left over.'"
  
  44 So he set it before them, and they ate, and left some of it, according to the word of Yahweh.

  1 Now Naaman, captain of the army of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honorable, because by him Yahweh had given victory to Syria: he was also a mighty man of valor, but he was a leper.
  
  2 The Syrians had gone out in bands, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maiden; and she waited on Naaman's wife.
  
  3 She said to her mistress, "I wish that my lord were with the prophet who is in Samaria! Then he would heal him of his leprosy."
  
  4 Someone went in, and told his lord, saying, "The maiden who is from the land of Israel said this."
  
  5 The king of Syria said, "Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel." He departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of clothing.
  
  6 He brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, "Now when this letter has come to you, behold, I have sent Naaman my servant to you, that you may heal him of his leprosy."
  
  7 It happened, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he tore his clothes, and said, "Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man sends to me to heal a man of his leprosy? But please consider and see how he seeks a quarrel against me."
  
  8 It was so, when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, "Why have you torn your clothes? Let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel."
  
  9 So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariots, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha.
  
  10 Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, "Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall come again to you, and you shall be clean."
  
  11 But Naaman was angry, and went away, and said, "Behold, I thought, 'He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of Yahweh his God, and wave his hand over the place, and heal the leper.'
  
  12 Aren't Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Couldn't I wash in them, and be clean?" So he turned and went away in a rage.
  
  13 His servants came near, and spoke to him, and said, "My father, if the prophet had asked you do some great thing, wouldn't you have done it? How much rather then, when he says to you, 'Wash, and be clean?'"
  
  14 Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.
  
  15 He returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him; and he said, "See now, I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel. Now therefore, please take a gift from your servant."
  
  16 But he said, "As Yahweh lives, before whom I stand, I will receive none." He urged him to take it; but he refused.
  
  17 Naaman said, "If not, then, please let two mules' burden of earth be given to your servant; for your servant will from now on offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice to other gods, but to Yahweh.
  
  18 In this thing may Yahweh pardon your servant: when my master goes into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leans on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon. When I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, may Yahweh pardon your servant in this thing."
  
  19 He said to him, "Go in peace." So he departed from him a little way.
  
  20 But Gehazi the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, "Behold, my master has spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought. As Yahweh lives, I will run after him, and take something from him."
  
  21 So Gehazi followed after Naaman. When Naaman saw one running after him, he came down from the chariot to meet him, and said, "Is all well?"
  
  22 He said, "All is well. My master has sent me, saying, 'Behold, even now two young men of the sons of the prophets have come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two changes of clothing.'"
  
  23 Naaman said, "Be pleased to take two talents." He urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of clothing, and laid them on two of his servants; and they carried them before him.
  
  24 When he came to the hill, he took them from their hand, and stored them in the house. Then he let the men go, and they departed.
  
  25 But he went in, and stood before his master. Elisha said to him, "Where did you come from, Gehazi?" He said, "Your servant went nowhere."
  
  26 He said to him, "Didn't my heart go with you, when the man turned from his chariot to meet you? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and olive groves and vineyards, and sheep and cattle, and male servants and female servants?
  
  27 Therefore the leprosy of Naaman will cling to you and to your seed forever." He went out from his presence a leper, as white as snow.

  1 The sons of the prophets said to Elisha, "See now, the place where we dwell before you is too small for us.
  
  2 Please let us go to the Jordan, and every man take a beam from there, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell." He answered, "Go!"
  
  3 One said, "Please be pleased to go with your servants." He answered, "I will go."
  
  4 So he went with them. When they came to the Jordan, they cut down wood.
  
  5 But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water. Then he cried, and said, "Alas, my master! For it was borrowed."
  
  6 The man of God asked, "Where did it fall?" He showed him the place. He cut down a stick, threw it in there, and made the iron float.
  
  7 He said, "Take it." So he put out his hand and took it.
  
  8 Now the king of Syria was warring against Israel; and he took counsel with his servants, saying, "My camp will be in such and such a place."
  
  9 The man of God sent to the king of Israel, saying, "Beware that you not pass such a place; for the Syrians are coming down there."
  
  10 The king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of; and he saved himself there, not once nor twice.
  
  11 The heart of the king of Syria was very troubled about this. He called his servants, and said to them, "Won't you show me which of us is for the king of Israel?"
  
  12 One of his servants said, "No, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom."
  
  13 He said, "Go and see where he is, that I may send and get him." It was told him, saying, "Behold, he is in Dothan."
  
  14 Therefore he sent horses, chariots, and a great army there. They came by night, and surrounded the city.
  
  15 When the servant of the man of God had risen early, and gone out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was around the city. His servant said to him, "Alas, my master! What shall we do?"
  
  16 He answered, "Don't be afraid; for those who are with us are more than those who are with them."
  
  17 Elisha prayed, and said, "Yahweh, please open his eyes, that he may see." Yahweh opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire around Elisha.
  
  18 When they came down to him, Elisha prayed to Yahweh, and said, "Please strike this people with blindness." He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
  
  19 Elisha said to them, "This is not the way, neither is this the city. Follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom you seek." He led them to Samaria.
  
  20 It happened, when they had come into Samaria, that Elisha said, "Yahweh, open the eyes of these men, that they may see." Yahweh opened their eyes, and they saw; and behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.
  
  21 The king of Israel said to Elisha, when he saw them, "My father, shall I strike them? Shall I strike them?"
  
  22 He answered, "You shall not strike them. Would you strike those whom you have taken captive with your sword and with your bow? Set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master."
  
  23 He prepared great feast for them. When they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. The bands of Syria stopped raiding the land of Israel.
  
  24 It happened after this, that Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his army, and went up and besieged Samaria.
  
  25 There was a great famine in Samaria. Behold, they besieged it, until a donkey's head was sold for eighty pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a kab of dove's dung for five pieces of silver.
  
  26 As the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried to him, saying, "Help, my lord, O king!"
  
  27 He said, "If Yahweh doesn't help you, from where could I help you? From of the threshing floor, or from the winepress?"
  
  28 The king said to her, "What ails you?" She answered, "This woman said to me, 'Give your son, that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.'
  
  29 So we boiled my son, and ate him: and I said to her on the next day, 'Give your son, that we may eat him;' and she has hidden her son."
  
  30 It happened, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he tore his clothes (now he was passing by on the wall); and the people looked, and behold, he had sackcloth underneath on his flesh.
  
  31 Then he said, "God do so to me, and more also, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stay on him this day."
  
  32 But Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. Then the king sent a man from before him; but before the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, "Do you see how this son of a murderer has sent to take away my head? Behold, when the messenger comes, shut the door, and hold the door shut against him. Isn't the sound of his master's feet behind him?"
  
  33 While he was still talking with them, behold, the messenger came down to him. Then he said, "Behold, this evil is from Yahweh. Why should I wait for Yahweh any longer?"
  
  2 Rois 7
  
  1 Elisha said, "Hear the word of Yahweh. Thus says Yahweh, 'Tomorrow about this time a measure of fine flour will be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.'"
  
  2 Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, "Behold, if Yahweh made windows in heaven, could this thing be?" He said, "Behold, you shall see it with your eyes, but shall not eat of it."
  
  3 Now there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate. They said one to another, "Why do we sit here until we die?
  
  4 If we say, 'We will enter into the city,' then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there. If we sit still here, we also die. Now therefore come, and let us surrender to the army of the Syrians. If they save us alive, we will live; and if they kill us, we will only die."
  
  5 They rose up in the twilight, to go to the camp of the Syrians. When they had come to the outermost part of the camp of the Syrians, behold, there was no man there.
  
  6 For the Lord had made the army of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great army: and they said one to another, Behold, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come on us.
  
  7 Therefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their donkeys, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.
  
  8 When these lepers came to the outermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and ate and drink, and carried there silver, and gold, and clothing, and went and hid it. Then they came back, and entered into another tent, and carried there also, and went and hid it.
  
  9 Then they said one to another, "We aren't doing right. This day is a day of good news, and we keep silent. If we wait until the morning light, punishment will overtake us. Now therefore come, let us go and tell the king's household."
  
  10 So they came and called to the porter of the city; and they told them, saying, "We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but the horses tied, and the donkeys tied, and the tents as they were."
  
  11 He called the porters; and they told it to the king's household within.
  
  12 The king arose in the night, and said to his servants, "I will now show you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we are hungry. Therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, 'When they come out of the city, we shall take them alive, and get into the city.'"
  
  13 One of his servants answered, "Please let some take five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city. Behold, they are like all the multitude of Israel who are left in it. Behold, they are like all the multitude of Israel who are consumed. Let us send and see."
  
  14 They took therefore two chariots with horses; and the king sent after the army of the Syrians, saying, "Go and see."
  
  15 They went after them to the Jordan; and behold, all the way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. The messengers returned, and told the king.
  
  16 The people went out, and plundered the camp of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of Yahweh.
  
  17 The king appointed the captain on whose hand he leaned to be in charge of the gate: and the people trod on him in the gate, and he died as the man of God had said, who spoke when the king came down to him.
  
  18 It happened, as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, "Two measures of barley for a shekel, and a measure of fine flour for a shekel, shall be tomorrow about this time in the gate of Samaria";
  
  19 and that captain answered the man of God, and said, "Now, behold, if Yahweh should make windows in heaven, might such a thing be?" and he said, "Behold, you shall see it with your eyes, but shall not eat of it."
  
  20 It happened like that to him; for the people trod on him in the gate, and he died.
  
  2 Rois 8
  
  1 Now Elisha had spoken to the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, "Arise, and go, you and your household, and stay for a while wherever you can; for Yahweh has called for a famine. It shall also come on the land seven years."
  
  2 The woman arose, and did according to the word of the man of God. She went with her household, and lived in the land of the Philistines seven years.
  
  3 It happened at the seven years' end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines. Then she went forth to cry to the king for her house and for her land.
  
  4 Now the king was talking with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, "Please tell me all the great things that Elisha has done."
  
  5 It happened, as he was telling the king how he had restored to life him who was dead, that behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. Gehazi said, "My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life."
  
  6 When the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed to her a certain officer, saying, "Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now."
  
  7 Elisha came to Damascus; and Benhadad the king of Syria was sick. It was told him, saying, "The man of God has come here."
  
  8 The king said to Hazael, "Take a present in your hand, and go, meet the man of God, and inquire of Yahweh by him, saying, 'Will I recover from this sickness?'"
  
  9 So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels' burden, and came and stood before him, and said, "Your son Benhadad king of Syria has sent me to you, saying, 'Will I recover from this sickness?'"
  
  10 Elisha said to him, "Go, tell him, 'You shall surely recover;' however Yahweh has shown me that he shall surely die."
  
  11 He settled his gaze steadfastly on him, until he was ashamed. Then the man of God wept.
  
  12 Hazael said, "Why do you weep, my lord?" He answered, "Because I know the evil that you will do to the children of Israel. You will set their strongholds on fire, and you will kill their young men with the sword, and will dash in pieces their little ones, and rip up their women with child."
  
  13 Hazael said, "But what is your servant, who is but a dog, that he should do this great thing?" Elisha answered, "Yahweh has shown me that you will be king over Syria."
  
  14 Then he departed from Elisha, and came to his master, who said to him, "What did Elisha say to you?" He answered, "He told me that you would surely recover."
  
  15 It happened on the next day, that he took a thick cloth, dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died. Then Hazael reigned in his place.
  
  16 In the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being king of Judah then, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah began to reign.
  
  17 He was thirty-two years old when he began to reign. He reigned eight years in Jerusalem.
  
  18 He walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab; for he had the daughter of Ahab as wife. He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh.
  
  19 However Yahweh would not destroy Judah, for David his servant's sake, as he promised him to give to him a lamp for his children always.
  
  20 In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.
  
  21 Then Joram passed over to Zair, and all his chariots with him: and he rose up by night, and struck the Edomites who surrounded him, and the captains of the chariots; and the people fled to their tents.
  
  22 So Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah to this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time.
  
  23 The rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, aren't they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
  
  24 Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his place.
  
  25 In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah began to reign.
  
  26 Twenty-two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri king of Israel.
  
  27 He walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, as did the house of Ahab; for he was the son-in-law of the house of Ahab.
  
  28 He went with Joram the son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth Gilead: and the Syrians wounded Joram.
  
  29 King Joram returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

  1 Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets, and said to him, "Put your belt on your waist, take this vial of oil in your hand, and go to Ramoth Gilead.
  
  2 When you come there, find Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in, and make him arise up from among his brothers, and carry him to an inner room.
  
  3 Then take the vial of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, 'Thus says Yahweh, "I have anointed you king over Israel."' Then open the door, flee, and don't wait."
  
  4 So the young man, even the young man the prophet, went to Ramoth Gilead.
  
  5 When he came, behold, the captains of the army were sitting. Then he said, "I have a message for you, captain." Jehu said, "To which of us all?" He said, "To you, O captain."
  
  6 He arose, and went into the house. Then he poured the oil on his head, and said to him, "Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, 'I have anointed you king over the people of Yahweh, even over Israel.
  
  7 You shall strike the house of Ahab your master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of Yahweh, at the hand of Jezebel.
  
  8 For the whole house of Ahab shall perish. I will cut off from Ahab everyone who urinates against a wall, both him who is shut up and him who is left at large in Israel.
  
  9 I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah.
  
  10 The dogs will eat Jezebel on the plot of ground of Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her.'" He opened the door, and fled.
  
  11 Then Jehu came forth to the servants of his lord: and one said to him, "Is all well? Why did this mad fellow come to you?" He said to them, "You know the man and what his talk was."
  
  12 They said, "That is a lie. Tell us now." He said, "He said to me, 'Thus says Yahweh, I have anointed you king over Israel.'"
  
  13 Then they hurried, and took every man his garment, and put it under him on the top of the stairs, and blew the trumpet, saying, "Jehu is king."

  14 Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness of which he died: and Joash the king of Israel came down to him, and wept over him, and said, "My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!"
  
  15 Elisha said to him, "Take bow and arrows"; and he took to him bow and arrows.
  
  16 He said to the king of Israel, "Put your hand on the bow"; and he put his hand on it. Elisha laid his hands on the king's hands.
  
  17 He said, "Open the window eastward"; and he opened it. Then Elisha said, "Shoot!" and he shot. He said, "Yahweh's arrow of victory, even the arrow of victory over Syria; for you shall strike the Syrians in Aphek, until you have consumed them."
  
  18 He said, "Take the arrows"; and he took them. He said to the king of Israel, "Strike the ground"; and he struck three times, and stopped.
  
  19 The man of God was angry with him, and said, "You should have struck five or six times. Then you would have struck Syria until you had consumed it, whereas now you shall strike Syria just three times."
  
  20 Elisha died, and they buried him. Now the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.
  
  21 It happened, as they were burying a man, that behold, they spied a band; and they cast the man into the tomb of Elisha: and as soon as the man touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.

  1 Lorsque l'Eternel fit monter Elie au ciel dans un tourbillon, celui-ci partait de Guilgal avec Elisée.
  
  2 Elie dit à Elisée : « Reste donc ici, car l'Eternel m'envoie jusqu'à Béthel. » Elisée répondit : « L'Eternel est vivant et ton âme est vivante ! Je ne te quitterai pas. » Et ils descendirent à Béthel.
  
  3 Les membres de la communauté de prophètes de Béthel sortirent de la ville vers Elisée et lui dirent : « Sais-tu que c’est aujourd’hui que l'Eternel va enlever ton seigneur au-dessus de ta tête ? » Il répondit : « Moi aussi, je le sais. Taisez-vous ! »
  
  4 Elie lui dit : « Elisée, reste donc ici, car l'Eternel m'envoie à Jéricho. » Il répondit : « L'Eternel est vivant et ton âme est vivante ! Je ne te quitterai pas. » Et ils arrivèrent à Jéricho.
  
  5 Les membres de la communauté de prophètes de Jéricho s'approchèrent d'Elisée et lui dirent : « Sais-tu que c’est aujourd’hui que l'Eternel va enlever ton seigneur au-dessus de ta tête ? » Il répondit : « Moi aussi, je le sais. Taisez-vous ! »
  
  6 Elie lui dit : « Reste donc ici, car l'Eternel m'envoie vers le Jourdain. » Il répondit : « L'Eternel est vivant et ton âme est vivante ! Je ne te quitterai pas. » Et ils poursuivirent tous deux leur chemin.
  
  7 Il y eut 50 membres de la communauté de prophètes qui vinrent se poster face à eux deux, à une certaine distance, tandis qu’eux-mêmes s'arrêtaient au bord du Jourdain.
  
  8 Elie prit alors son manteau, l’enroula et en frappa l’eau. Elle se sépara et ils traversèrent tous les deux à pied sec.
  
  9 Une fois qu'ils eurent traversé, Elie dit à Elisée : « Dis-moi ce que tu veux que je fasse pour toi avant d'être enlevé loin de toi. » Elisée répondit : « Qu'il y ait sur moi une double part de ton esprit ! »
  
  10 Elie dit : « Tu demandes quelque chose de difficile. Toutefois, si tu peux me voir pendant que je serai enlevé loin de toi, cela t'arrivera. Sinon, cela n'arrivera pas. »
  
  11 Alors qu’ils continuaient à marcher tout en parlant, un char et des chevaux de feu les séparèrent l'un de l'autre et Elie monta au ciel dans un tourbillon.
  
  12 Elisée regardait tout en criant : « Mon père ! Mon père ! Char et cavalerie d'Israël ! » Puis il ne le vit plus. Il prit alors ses habits et les déchira en deux.
  
  13 Il ramassa aussi le manteau qu'Elie avait laissé tomber et repartit. Il s'arrêta sur la rive du Jourdain,
  
  14 prit le manteau qu'Elie avait laissé tomber, en frappa l’eau et dit : « Où est l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Elie ? » Lorsqu’il frappa l’eau, elle se sépara aussi et il put traverser.
  
  15 Les membres de la communauté de prophètes de Jéricho le virent d’en face et dirent : « L'esprit d'Elie repose sur Elisée ! » Ils allèrent à sa rencontre et se prosternèrent jusqu’à terre devant lui.
  
  16 Ils lui dirent : « Il y a avec tes serviteurs 50 hommes vaillants. Veux-tu qu'ils aillent à la recherche de ton seigneur ? Peut-être que l'Esprit de l'Eternel l'a emporté et l'a conduit sur une montagne ou dans une vallée. » Il répondit : « Ne les envoyez pas. »
  
  17 Mais ils insistèrent tant et si bien qu’il dit : « Envoyez-les. » Ils envoyèrent les 50 hommes, qui cherchèrent Elie pendant 3 jours sans le trouver.
  
  18 Lorsqu'ils furent de retour vers Elisée, qui était à Jéricho, il leur dit : « Ne vous avais-je pas dit de ne pas y aller ? »
  
  19 Les habitants de la ville dirent à Elisée : « La ville est bien située, comme le voit mon seigneur, mais l’eau est mauvaise et la terre ne produit rien. »
  
  20 Il dit : « Apportez-moi un plat neuf et mettez-y du sel. » Et ils le lui apportèrent.
  
  21 Il alla vers la source d’eau, y jeta du sel et annonça : « Voici ce que dit l'Eternel : Je rends cette eau saine et il n'en proviendra plus ni mort ni stérilité. »
  
  22 Et l’eau est devenue saine jusqu'à aujourd'hui, conformément à la parole prononcée par Elisée.
  
  23 De là, il monta à Béthel. Comme il montait par le chemin, de jeunes garçons sortirent de la ville et se moquèrent de lui. Ils lui disaient : « Monte, chauve ! Monte, chauve ! »
  
  24 Il se retourna pour les regarder et les maudit au nom de l'Eternel. Alors deux ourses sortirent de la forêt et elles déchirèrent 42 de ces jeunes.
  
  25 De là il alla au mont Carmel, puis il retourna à Samarie.
  
  2 Rois 3
  
  1 Joram, le fils d'Achab, devint roi d’Israël à Samarie la dix-huitième année du règne de Josaphat sur Juda. Il régna 12 ans.
  
  2 Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Eternel, mais pas autant que son père et sa mère. Il démolit le monument de Baal que son père avait érigé,
  
  3 mais il s’attacha aux péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nebath, qui avait fait pécher Israël et il ne s'en détourna pas.
  
  4 Mésha, le roi de Moab, possédait des troupeaux. Il payait au roi d'Israël un tribut de 100'000 agneaux et de 100'000 béliers avec leur laine.
  
  5 A la mort d'Achab, le roi de Moab se révolta contre le roi d'Israël.
  
  6 Le roi Joram sortit alors de Samarie et passa en revue toute l'armée d'Israël.
  
  7 Puis il se mit en marche et fit dire à Josaphat, le roi de Juda : « Le roi de Moab s'est révolté contre moi. Veux-tu venir avec moi pour combattre Moab ? » Josaphat répondit : « Je vais monter avec toi : toi et moi, ton peuple et le mien, tes chevaux et les miens, il n’y aura aucune différence. »
  
  8 Il ajouta : « Par quel chemin allons-nous monter ? » Joram dit : « Par le désert d'Edom. »
  
  9 Les rois d'Israël, de Juda et d'Edom partirent. Après sept jours de marche, ils manquèrent d'eau pour l'armée et pour les bêtes de somme qui la suivaient.
  
  10 Alors le roi d'Israël dit : « Quel malheur ! L'Eternel a appelé les trois rois que nous sommes pour les livrer entre les mains des Moabites. »
  
  11 Mais Josaphat demanda : « N'y a-t-il ici aucun prophète de l'Eternel, pour que nous puissions le consulter ? » L'un des serviteurs du roi d'Israël répondit : « Il y a ici Elisée, le fils de Shaphath, qui était l’assistant d'Elie. »
  
  12 Josaphat dit : « La parole de l'Eternel est avec lui. » Le roi d'Israël, Josaphat et le roi d'Edom descendirent alors vers Elisée.
  
  13 Elisée dit au roi d'Israël : « Que me veux-tu ? Va trouver les prophètes de ton père et ceux de ta mère. » Le roi d'Israël lui dit : « Non, car c'est l'Eternel qui a appelé les trois rois que nous sommes pour les livrer entre les mains des Moabites. »
  
  14 Elisée dit : « L'Eternel, le maître de l’univers, dont je suis le serviteur est vivant ! Sans l’estime que j'ai pour Josaphat, le roi de Juda, je ne ferais aucune attention à toi et je ne te regarderais même pas.
  
  15 Maintenant, amenez-moi un harpiste. » Tandis que le harpiste jouait, la main de l'Eternel reposa sur Elisée
  
  16 et il annonça : « Voici ce que dit l'Eternel : Creusez des fosses, des fosses dans cette vallée !
  
  17 En effet, voici ce que dit l'Eternel : Vous n'apercevrez pas de vent et vous ne verrez pas de pluie, mais cette vallée se remplira d'eau et vous boirez, vous, vos troupeaux et votre bétail.
  
  18 Mais cela ne suffit pas aux yeux de l'Eternel : il livrera les Moabites entre vos mains.
  
  19 Vous détruirez toutes leurs villes fortifiées et toutes leurs villes importantes, vous abattrez tous leurs bons arbres, vous boucherez toutes leurs sources d'eau et vous gâterez tous leurs bons champs en y jetant des pierres. »
  
  20 Or le matin, au moment de la présentation de l'offrande, l'eau arriva par le chemin d'Edom et le pays fut rempli d'eau.
  
  21 Cependant, tous les Moabites avaient appris que les rois montaient pour les combattre. On convoqua donc tous ceux qui étaient aptes au service militaire, même ceux qui avaient dépassé l’âge, et ils se postèrent à la frontière.
  
  22 Ils se levèrent de bon matin et, quand le soleil brilla sur l’eau, les Moabites virent en face d'eux l’eau rouge comme du sang.
  
  23 Ils dirent : « C'est du sang ! Les rois se sont certainement combattus à coups d'épée et ils se sont entretués. Maintenant, Moabites, au pillage ! »
  
  24 Lorsqu’ils arrivèrent vers le camp d'Israël, les Israélites se levèrent et frappèrent les Moabites, qui prirent la fuite devant eux. Les Israélites pénétrèrent dans le pays de Moab et battirent ce peuple.
  
  25 Ils démolirent les villes, ils jetèrent chacun des pierres dans tous les bons champs jusqu’à les en remplir, ils bouchèrent toutes les sources d'eau et ils abattirent tous les bons arbres. Il ne resta plus que Kir-Haréseth et ses pierres, mais les soldats armés de frondes l'encerclèrent et la battirent.
  
  26 Voyant qu'il avait le dessous dans le combat, le roi de Moab prit avec lui 700 hommes armés d'épées pour se frayer un passage jusqu'au roi d'Edom, mais ils n'y parvinrent pas.
  
  27 Il prit alors son fils aîné, celui qui devait devenir roi à sa place, et l'offrit en holocauste sur la muraille. Les Israélites éprouvèrent alors un tel sentiment d’indignation qu’ils s'éloignèrent du roi de Moab et retournèrent dans leur pays.
  
  2 Rois 4
  
  1 Une femme de la communauté de prophètes cria à Elisée : « Ton serviteur, mon mari, est mort, et tu sais qu’il craignait l'Eternel. Or le créancier est venu pour prendre mes deux enfants et faire d'eux ses esclaves. »
  
  2 Elisée lui dit : « Que puis-je faire pour toi ? Dis-moi : qu'as-tu chez toi ? » Elle répondit : « Ta servante n'a rien du tout chez elle, mis à part un pot d'huile. »
  
  3 Il dit : « Va demander des vases dans la rue, chez tous tes voisins, des récipients vides, demandes-en un grand nombre.
  
  4 Une fois rentrée, ferme la porte derrière toi et tes enfants, verse de l'huile dans tous ces récipients et mets de côté ceux qui sont pleins. »
  
  5 Alors elle le quitta. Elle ferma la porte derrière elle et ses enfants, qui lui présentaient les récipients, et elle versait.
  
  6 Lorsque les récipients furent pleins, lorsqu’elle dit à son fils : « Donne-moi encore un récipient » et qu’il lui répondit : « Il n'y en a plus », l'huile s'arrêta.
  
  7 Elle alla le rapporter à l'homme de Dieu qui lui dit : « Va vendre l'huile et paie ta dette. Tu vivras, avec tes fils, de ce qui restera. »
  
  8 Un jour, Elisée passait par Sunem. Il y avait là une femme de haute condition qui insista pour qu'il accepte de manger. Chaque fois qu'il passait par là, il se rendit désormais chez elle pour manger.
  
  9 Elle dit à son mari : « Vois-tu, je sais que cet homme qui passe toujours chez nous est un saint homme de Dieu.
  
  10 Faisons une petite chambre indépendante et mettons-y pour lui un lit, une table, un siège et un chandelier, afin qu'il puisse s'y retirer quand il viendra chez nous. »
  
  11 Elisée revint un jour dans la région. Il se retira dans la chambre à l'étage et y coucha.
  
  12 Il dit à son serviteur Guéhazi : « Appelle cette Sunamite. » Guéhazi l'appela et elle se présenta devant lui.
  
  13 Elisée dit à Guéhazi : « Dis-lui : ‘Tu t'es donné toute cette peine pour nous ! Que pouvons-nous faire pour toi ? Faut-il parler en ta faveur au roi ou au chef de l'armée ?’ » Elle répondit : « Je vis bien tranquillement au milieu de mon peuple. »
  
  14 Elisée dit : « Que faire pour elle ? » Guéhazi répondit : « En fait, elle n'a pas de fils et son mari est vieux. »
  
  15 Elisée dit : « Appelle-la. » Guéhazi l'appela et elle se présenta à la porte.
  
  16 Elisée lui dit : « A la même époque, l'année prochaine, tu embrasseras un fils. » Elle répondit : « Non, mon seigneur, homme de Dieu, ne trompe pas ta servante ! »
  
  17 Cette femme devint enceinte et elle mit au monde un fils à la même époque, l'année suivante, comme Elisée le lui avait dit.
  
  18 L'enfant grandit. Un jour qu'il était allé trouver son père vers les moissonneurs,
  
  19 il lui dit : « Ma tête ! Ma tête ! » Le père dit à son serviteur : « Amène-le à sa mère. »
  
  20 Le serviteur l'emporta et l'amena à sa mère. L'enfant resta sur ses genoux jusqu'à midi, puis il mourut.
  
  21 Elle monta le coucher sur le lit de l'homme de Dieu, ferma la porte derrière lui et sortit.
  
  22 Elle appela son mari et dit : « Envoie-moi un des serviteurs et une ânesse ; je veux vite aller vers l'homme de Dieu et revenir. »
  
  23 Il demanda : « Pourquoi veux-tu aller aujourd'hui vers lui ? Ce n'est ni le début du mois ni le sabbat. » Elle répondit : « Tout va bien. »
  
  24 Puis elle fit seller l'ânesse et dit à son serviteur : « Conduis-moi et avance ! Ne m'arrête pas en route sans que je te le dise. »
  
  25 Elle partit donc et se rendit vers l'homme de Dieu au mont Carmel. L'homme de Dieu l'aperçut de loin et dit à son serviteur Guéhazi : « Voici notre Sunamite !
  
  26 Cours donc à sa rencontre et demande-lui : ‘Vas-tu bien ? Ton mari et ton enfant vont-ils bien ?’ » Elle répondit : « Bien »,
  
  27 mais dès qu'elle fut arrivée près de l'homme de Dieu sur la montagne, elle lui attrapa les pieds. Quand Guéhazi s'approcha pour la repousser, l'homme de Dieu dit : « Laisse-la, car elle est dans l'amertume, et l'Eternel me l'avait caché, il ne me l'a pas révélé. »
  
  28 La femme dit alors : « Ai-je demandé un fils à mon seigneur ? Ne t'ai-je pas dit de ne pas me tromper ? »
  
  29 Elisée dit à Guéhazi : « Noue ta ceinture, prends mon bâton à la main et pars. Si tu rencontres quelqu'un, ne le salue pas et, si quelqu'un te salue, ne lui réponds pas. Tu mettras mon bâton sur le visage de l'enfant. »
  
  30 La mère de l'enfant dit : « L'Eternel est vivant et ton âme est vivante ! Je ne te quitterai pas. » Elisée se leva et la suivit.
  
  31 Guéhazi les avait devancés et avait mis le bâton sur le visage de l'enfant, mais il n'y eut ni voix ni réaction. Il repartit à la rencontre d'Elisée et lui annonça : « L'enfant ne s'est pas réveillé. »
  
  32 Lorsque Elisée arriva dans la maison, il vit l'enfant mort, couché sur son lit.
  
  33 Elisée entra, ferma la porte sur eux deux et pria l'Eternel.
  
  34 Il monta sur le lit et se coucha sur l'enfant ; il mit sa bouche sur sa bouche, ses yeux sur ses yeux, ses mains sur ses mains et s'étendit sur lui. Le corps de l'enfant se réchauffa.
  
  35 Elisée s'éloigna, marcha de long en large dans la maison, puis remonta s'étendre sur l'enfant. Alors l'enfant éternua sept fois avant d’ouvrir les yeux.
  
  36 Elisée appela Guéhazi et lui dit : « Appelle notre Sunamite. » Guéhazi l'appela et elle vint vers Elisée qui dit : « Prends ton fils ! »
  
  37 Elle alla se jeter à ses pieds et se prosterna jusqu’à terre. Puis elle prit son fils et sortit.
  
  38 Elisée revint à Guilgal alors qu’il y avait une famine dans le pays. Comme les membres de la communauté de prophètes étaient assis devant lui, il dit à son serviteur : « Mets la grande marmite sur le feu et fais cuire un potage pour eux. »
  
  39 L'un d'eux sortit dans les champs pour cueillir des herbes. Il trouva de la vigne sauvage et il y cueillit des coloquintes sauvages, plein son habit. Quand il rentra, il les coupa en morceaux dans la marmite où se trouvait le potage, car on ne savait pas ce que c'était.
  
  40 On servit à manger à ces hommes, mais dès qu'ils eurent goûté le potage, ils s'écrièrent : « La mort est dans la marmite, homme de Dieu ! » Et ils ne purent pas manger.
  
  41 Elisée dit : « Prenez de la farine. » Il en jeta dans la marmite et dit : « Sers ces gens et qu'ils mangent. » Et il n'y avait plus rien de mauvais dans la marmite.
  
  42 Un homme arriva de Baal-Shalisha. Il apportait dans son sac du pain de la première fournée pour l'homme de Dieu : 20 pains d'orge et de blé nouveau. Elisée dit : « Donnes-en à ces gens et qu'ils mangent. »
  
  43 Son serviteur répondit : « Comment pourrais-je en donner à 100 personnes ? » Mais Elisée répéta : « Donnes-en à ces gens et qu'ils mangent, car voici ce que dit l'Eternel : ‘On mangera et il y aura des restes.’ »
  
  44 Il mit alors les pains devant eux. Ils mangèrent et laissèrent des restes, conformément à la parole de l'Eternel.
  
  2 Rois 5
  
  1 Naaman, le chef de l'armée du roi de Syrie, jouissait de la faveur et de l’estime de son seigneur, car c'était par lui que l'Eternel avait donné la victoire aux Syriens. Toutefois, cet homme fort et vaillant était lépreux.
  
  2 Or, les Syriens avaient mené des expéditions, et ils avaient ramené prisonnière une petite fille du pays d'Israël. Celle-ci était au service de la femme de Naaman,
  
  3 et elle dit à sa maîtresse : « Si seulement mon seigneur pouvait voir le prophète qui se trouve à Samarie, il le guérirait de sa lèpre ! »
  
  4 Naaman alla dire à son seigneur : « La jeune fille du pays d'Israël a parlé de telle et telle manière. »
  
  5 Le roi de Syrie dit : « Vas-y, rends-toi à Samarie. Je vais envoyer une lettre au roi d'Israël. » Naaman partit, prenant avec lui 300 kilos d'argent, 70 d'or et 10 habits de rechange,
  
  6 et il apporta la lettre au roi d'Israël. Celle-ci disait : « Maintenant que cette lettre t’est parvenue, tu sais que je t'envoie Naaman, mon serviteur, afin que tu le guérisses de sa lèpre. »
  
  7 Après avoir lu la lettre, le roi d'Israël déchira ses habits et dit : « Suis-je Dieu, pour faire mourir et pour faire vivre ? En effet, il s'adresse à moi afin que je guérisse un homme de sa lèpre ! Sachez-le donc et comprenez-le : il cherche une occasion de dispute avec moi. »
  
  8 Lorsque Elisée, l'homme de Dieu, apprit que le roi d'Israël avait déchiré ses habits, il fit dire au roi : « Pourquoi as-tu déchiré tes habits ? Fais-le venir vers moi et il saura qu'il y a un prophète en Israël. »
  
  9 Naaman vint avec ses chevaux et son char, et il s'arrêta à la porte de la maison d'Elisée.
  
  10 Elisée lui fit dire par un messager : « Va te laver 7 fois dans le Jourdain. Ta chair deviendra saine et tu seras pur. »
  
  11 Naaman fut indigné et il s'en alla en disant : « Je me disais : ‘Il sortira en personne vers moi, il fera appel au nom de l'Eternel, son Dieu, il fera un mouvement de la main sur l’endroit malade et guérira ma lèpre.’
  
  12 Les fleuves de Damas, l'Abana et le Parpar, ne valent-ils pas mieux que tous les cours d’eau d'Israël ? Ne pourrais-je pas m'y laver pour devenir pur ? » Il tourna le dos, et il partait plein de colère
  
  13 lorsque ses serviteurs s'approchèrent de lui pour lui parler. Ils dirent : « Mon père, si le prophète t'avait demandé quelque chose de difficile, ne l'aurais-tu pas fait ? Tu dois d’autant plus volontiers faire ce qu'il t'a dit : ‘Lave-toi et tu seras pur !’ »
  
  14 Il descendit alors se plonger 7 fois dans le Jourdain, conformément à la parole de l'homme de Dieu. Sa chair redevint comme celle d'un jeune enfant et il fut pur.
  
  15 Naaman retourna vers l'homme de Dieu avec toute sa suite. Dès son arrivée, il se présenta devant lui et dit : « Je reconnais qu'il n'y a aucun Dieu sur toute la terre, sauf en Israël. Maintenant, accepte, je t’en prie, un cadeau de la part de ton serviteur. »
  
  16 Elisée répondit : « L'Eternel, dont je suis le serviteur, est vivant ! Je n'accepterai rien. » Naaman insista pour qu'il accepte, mais il refusa.
  
  17 Alors Naaman dit : « Puisque tu refuses, permets que l'on me donne de la terre d’ici, à moi ton serviteur. Qu’on m’en donne l’équivalent de la charge de deux mulets, car moi ton serviteur, je ne veux plus offrir ni holocauste ni sacrifice à d'autres dieux qu'à l'Eternel.
  
  18 Cependant, que l'Eternel veuille pardonner ceci à ton serviteur : quand mon seigneur entre dans le temple de Rimmon pour s'y prosterner, il s'appuie sur ma main et je m’y prosterne aussi. Que l'Eternel veuille bien me pardonner, à moi ton serviteur, lorsque je me prosternerai dans le temple de Rimmon ! »
  
  19 Elisée lui dit : « Pars dans la paix. » Lorsque Naaman eut quitté Elisée et qu'il fut à une certaine distance,
  
  20 Guéhazi, le serviteur d'Elisée, l'homme de Dieu, se dit en lui-même : « Mon maître a ménagé Naaman, ce Syrien, en n'acceptant pas de prendre ce qu'il avait apporté. L'Eternel est vivant ! Je vais courir derrière lui et j'obtiendrai quelque chose de sa part. »
  
  21 Guéhazi courut donc derrière Naaman. Le voyant courir derrière lui, Naaman s’empressa de descendre de son char pour aller à sa rencontre et demanda : « Est-ce que tout va bien ? »
  
  22 Il répondit : « Tout va bien. Mon maître m'envoie te dire : ‘Deux jeunes gens de la région montagneuse d'Ephraïm, des membres de la communauté de prophètes, viennent d'arriver chez moi. Donne-moi pour eux, je t'en prie, 30 kilos d'argent et 2 habits de rechange.’ »
  
  23 Naaman dit : « Accepte de prendre 60 kilos. » Il insista et mit 60 kilos d'argent dans deux sacs, lui donna 2 habits de rechange et les fit porter devant Guéhazi par deux de ses serviteurs.
  
  24 Arrivé à la colline, Guéhazi les prit de leurs mains et les déposa chez lui, puis il renvoya ces hommes, qui partirent.
  
  25 Il alla ensuite se présenter à son seigneur. Elisée lui demanda : « D'où viens-tu, Guéhazi ? » Il répondit : « Ton serviteur n'est parti nulle part. »
  
  26 Mais Elisée lui dit : « Mon esprit non plus n’était pas parti lorsque cet homme a quitté son char pour venir à ta rencontre. Est-ce le moment de prendre de l'argent pour acheter des habits, des oliviers, des vignes, des brebis, des bœufs, des serviteurs et des servantes ?
  
  27 La lèpre de Naaman va s'attacher à toi et à ta descendance pour toujours. » Guéhazi quitta Elisée, atteint d’une lèpre blanche comme la neige.
  
  2 Rois 6
  
  1 Les membres de la communauté de prophètes dirent à Elisée : « L'endroit où nous nous tenons assis devant toi est trop petit pour nous.
  
  2 Allons jusqu'au Jourdain ! Nous y prendrons chacun une poutre et nous nous y ferons un lieu de réunion. » Elisée répondit : « Allez-y. »
  
  3 L'un d'eux dit : « Accepte de venir avec tes serviteurs ! » Il répondit : « Je vais venir. »
  
  4 Il partit donc avec eux. Arrivés au Jourdain, ils coupèrent du bois.
  
  5 Alors que l'un d'eux abattait une poutre, le fer de sa hache tomba dans l'eau. Il s'écria : « Ah, mon seigneur, je l'avais empruntée ! »
  
  6 L'homme de Dieu demanda : « Où est-il tombé ? » Il lui montra l’endroit. Alors Elisée coupa un morceau de bois, le jeta à la même place et fit ainsi surnager le fer.
  
  7 Puis il dit : « Prends-le ! » Il tendit la main et le prit.
  
  8 Le roi de Syrie était en guerre avec Israël. Dans un conseil qu'il tint avec ses serviteurs, il dit : « Mon camp sera à tel endroit. »
  
  9 Mais l'homme de Dieu fit dire au roi d'Israël : « Attention, ne passe pas à cet endroit, car c’est là que les Syriens descendent. »
  
  10 Le roi d'Israël envoya des hommes se tenir en observation à l'endroit que lui avait mentionné et signalé l'homme de Dieu. Cela ne se produisit pas seulement une ou deux fois,
  
  11 si bien que le roi de Syrie en eut le cœur tout troublé. Il appela ses serviteurs et leur dit : « Allez-vous enfin me dire lequel de nous est partisan du roi d'Israël ? »
  
  12 L'un de ses serviteurs répondit : « Personne, mon seigneur le roi. C’est Elisée, le prophète qui est en Israël, qui rapporte au roi d'Israël les paroles que tu prononces dans ta chambre à coucher. »
  
  13 Le roi dit : « Allez repérer où il est et je le ferai capturer. » On vint lui dire : « Il est à Dothan. »
  
  14 Le roi de Syrie y envoya des chevaux, des chars et une forte troupe, qui arrivèrent de nuit et qui encerclèrent la ville.
  
  15 Le serviteur de l'homme de Dieu se leva de bon matin pour sortir de la ville, et il vit qu'une troupe la cernait, avec des chevaux et des chars. Il dit alors à l'homme de Dieu : « Ah, mon seigneur, comment ferons-nous ? »
  
  16 Il répondit : « N’aie pas peur, car ceux qui sont avec nous sont plus nombreux que ceux qui sont avec eux. »
  
  17 Puis Elisée pria : « Eternel, ouvre ses yeux pour qu'il voie. » L'Eternel ouvrit les yeux du serviteur, et il vit la montagne pleine de chevaux et de chars de feu tout autour d'Elisée.
  
  18 Les Syriens descendirent vers Elisée. Il adressa alors cette prière à l'Eternel : « Veuille frapper cette nation d'aveuglement ! » Et l'Eternel les frappa d'aveuglement, conformément à la parole d'Elisée.
  
  19 Elisée leur dit : « Ce n'est pas le bon chemin et ce n'est pas la bonne ville. Suivez-moi et je vous conduirai vers l'homme que vous cherchez. » Il les conduisit à Samarie.
  
  20 Lorsqu'ils furent entrés dans Samarie, Elisée dit : « Eternel, ouvre les yeux de ces hommes pour qu'ils voient ! » L'Eternel ouvrit leurs yeux, et ils virent qu'ils étaient en plein milieu de Samarie.
  
  21 A leur vue, le roi d'Israël dit à Elisée : « Faut-il les tuer, mon père ? »
  
  22 Elisée répondit : « Tu ne les tueras pas. Est-ce que tu mets à mort ceux que tu fais prisonniers grâce à ton épée et ton arc ? Donne-leur du pain et de l'eau, afin qu'ils mangent et boivent, et qu'ils repartent ensuite vers leur seigneur. »
  
  23 Le roi d'Israël leur fit servir un grand repas, et ils mangèrent et burent. Puis il les renvoya et ils repartirent vers leur maître. Les troupes des Syriens ne revinrent plus sur le territoire d'Israël.
  
  24 Après cela, Ben-Hadad, le roi de Syrie, rassembla toute son armée, monta contre Samarie et l’assiégea.
  
  25 Il y eut une grande famine dans la ville. Le siège fut si long qu'une tête d'âne valait 80 pièces d'argent, et le quart de litre de crotte de pigeon 5 pièces d'argent.
  
  26 Alors que le roi passait sur la muraille, une femme lui cria : « Sauve-moi, mon seigneur le roi ! »
  
  27 Il répondit : « Si l'Eternel ne te sauve pas, avec quoi pourrais-je te sauver ? Avec les ressources de l'aire de battage ou du pressoir ? »
  
  28 Et le roi ajouta : « Qu'as-tu ? » Elle répondit : « Cette femme-là m'a dit : ‘Donne-moi ton fils ! Nous le mangerons aujourd'hui, et demain c’est mon fils que nous mangerons.’
  
  29 Nous avons fait cuire mon fils et nous l'avons mangé. Le lendemain, je lui ai dit : ‘Donne-moi ton fils pour que nous le mangions’, mais elle l’a caché. »
  
  30 Lorsque le roi entendit les paroles de cette femme, il déchira ses habits ; comme il marchait sur la muraille, le peuple vit qu'il portait en dessous un sac à même la peau.
  
  31 Le roi dit : « Que Dieu me traite avec la plus grande sévérité si la tête d'Elisée, fils de Shaphath, reste aujourd'hui sur ses épaules ! »
  
  32 Or Elisée se trouvait chez lui, et les anciens étaient assis avec lui. Le roi envoya quelqu’un de son entourage, mais avant même l’arrivée de ce messager, Elisée dit aux anciens : « Le voyez-vous ? Ce fils d'assassin envoie quelqu'un pour me couper la tête. Ecoutez ! Quand le messager arrivera, fermez-lui la porte et repoussez-le avec la porte. N’entend-on pas derrière lui le bruit des pas de son seigneur ? »
  
  33 Il était encore en train de leur parler quand le messager arriva vers lui, disant : « Ce malheur vient de l'Eternel. Que puis-je encore espérer de l'Eternel ? »
  
  2 Rois 7
  
  1 Elisée dit : « Ecoutez la parole de l'Eternel ! ‘Voici ce que dit l'Eternel : Demain, à la même heure, on pourra avoir 7 litres de fleur de farine pour une pièce d’argent et 14 litres d'orge pour une pièce d’argent, à la porte de Samarie.’ »
  
  2 L'officier chargé de soutenir le roi répondit à l'homme de Dieu : « Même si l'Eternel faisait des fenêtres au ciel, une telle chose ne pourrait pas se produire ! » Elisée dit : « Tu le verras de tes yeux, mais tu n'en mangeras pas. »
  
  3 Il y avait à l'entrée de la ville quatre lépreux qui se dirent l'un à l'autre : « Pourquoi rester ici jusqu'à notre mort ?
  
  4 Si nous envisageons d’entrer dans la ville, la famine y règne et nous mourrons. Mais si nous restons ici, nous mourrons aussi. Allons nous livrer dans le camp des Syriens ! S'ils nous laissent vivre, nous vivrons, et s'ils nous font mourir, nous mourrons. »
  
  5 Ils partirent donc au crépuscule pour se rendre au camp des Syriens. Lorsqu'ils arrivèrent à l'entrée du camp, il n'y avait personne.
  
  6 En effet, le Seigneur y avait fait entendre un bruit de chars et de chevaux, le bruit d'une grande armée, et ils s'étaient dit l'un à l'autre : « Le roi d'Israël a enrôlé contre nous les rois des Hittites et ceux des Egyptiens pour venir nous attaquer. »
  
  7 Ils s'étaient levés et avaient pris la fuite au crépuscule, en abandonnant leurs tentes, leurs chevaux et leurs ânes ; le camp était resté tel quel. Ils s'étaient enfuis pour sauver leur vie.
  
  8 Arrivés à l'entrée du camp, les lépreux pénétrèrent dans une tente, mangèrent et burent. Ils en emportèrent aussi de l'argent, de l'or et des habits qu'ils allèrent cacher. Ils revinrent, pénétrèrent dans une autre tente et en emportèrent des objets qu'ils allèrent cacher.
  
  9 Puis ils se dirent l'un à l'autre : « Nous n'agissons pas bien. Cette journée est une journée de bonne nouvelle. Si nous gardons le silence et que nous attendions jusqu'à la lumière du matin, nous en serons punis. Venez maintenant, allons faire un rapport au palais royal. »
  
  10 Ils partirent, appelèrent un homme qui gardait la porte de la ville et annoncèrent : « Nous sommes entrés dans le camp des Syriens et il n'y a personne. On n'y entend aucune voix d'homme ; il n'y a que des chevaux et des ânes attachés, et les tentes sont restées telles quelles. »
  
  11 Le garde appela les autres gardes et ils transmirent ce rapport à l'intérieur du palais royal.
  
  12 Le roi se leva alors qu’il faisait encore nuit et dit à ses serviteurs : « Je vais vous dire ce que nous font les Syriens. Comme ils savent que nous sommes affamés, ils ont quitté le camp pour se cacher dans les champs et ils se sont dit : ‘Quand ils sortiront de la ville, nous nous emparerons d’eux vivants et nous entrerons dans la ville.’ »
  
  13 L'un des serviteurs du roi répondit : « Que l'on prenne cinq des chevaux qui restent encore dans la ville. De toute façon, ils sont comme toute la population d'Israël qui est restée là : ils sont à bout, comme toute la population d'Israël. Prenons-les et envoyons quelqu'un voir ce qui se passe. »
  
  14 On prit deux chars avec leurs chevaux, et le roi envoya des hommes sur les traces de l'armée syrienne en disant : « Allez voir ! »
  
  15 Ils suivirent les Syriens jusqu'au Jourdain et virent que toute la route était pleine d’habits et d'objets qu’ils avaient jetés dans leur précipitation. Les messagers revinrent en informer le roi.
  
  16 Le peuple sortit et pilla le camp des Syriens. On eut 7 litres de fleur de farine pour une pièce d’argent et 14 litres d'orge pour une pièce d’argent, conformément à la parole de l'Eternel.
  
  17 Le roi avait confié la garde de la porte à l'officier qui le soutenait, mais cet officier fut écrasé à la porte par le peuple et il mourut, conformément à ce qu'avait dit l'homme de Dieu quand le roi était descendu vers lui.
  
  18 L'homme de Dieu avait alors dit au roi : « On pourra avoir 14 litres d'orge pour une pièce d’argent et 7 litres de fleur de farine pour une pièce d’argent, demain, à la même heure, à la porte de Samarie. »
  
  19 L'officier avait répondu à l'homme de Dieu : « Même si l'Eternel faisait des fenêtres au ciel, une telle chose ne pourrait pas se produire ! » Et Elisée avait dit : « Tu le verras de tes yeux, mais tu n'en mangeras pas. »
  
  20 C'est en effet ce qui arriva à cet homme : il fut écrasé à la porte par le peuple et il mourut.
  
  2 Rois 8
  
  1 Elisée dit à la femme dont il avait fait revivre le fils : « Lève-toi, pars avec ta famille et installe-toi où tu pourras. En effet, l'Eternel appelle la famine. Elle vient même sur le pays pour 7 ans. »
  
  2 La femme se leva et agit conformément à la parole de l'homme de Dieu : elle partit avec sa famille et s’installa pour 7 ans dans le pays des Philistins.
  
  3 Au bout des 7 ans, elle revint du pays des Philistins et elle alla chercher secours auprès du roi pour récupérer sa maison et son champ.
  
  4 Le roi était en pleine discussion avec Guéhazi, le serviteur de l'homme de Dieu, et il disait : « Raconte-moi donc toutes les grandes choses qu'Elisée a accomplies. »
  
  5 Il racontait justement au roi comment Elisée avait rendu la vie à un mort quand la femme dont il avait fait revivre le fils vint chercher secours auprès du roi pour récupérer sa maison et son champ. Guéhazi dit : « Mon seigneur le roi, voici la femme en question et voici son fils, celui qu'Elisée a fait revivre. »
  
  6 Le roi interrogea la femme et elle lui raconta toute l'histoire. Puis le roi mit un eunuque à sa disposition en lui donnant cette consigne : « Fais restituer à cette femme tout ce qui lui appartient, y compris tous les revenus de son champ, depuis le jour où elle a quitté le pays jusqu'à maintenant. »
  
  7 Elisée se rendit à Damas, alors que Ben-Hadad, le roi de Syrie, était malade. On lui annonça : « L'homme de Dieu est venu jusqu’ici. »
  
  8 Le roi dit à Hazaël : « Prends un cadeau avec toi et va à la rencontre de l'homme de Dieu. Consulte l'Eternel par son intermédiaire : demande si je vais survivre à cette maladie. »
  
  9 Hazaël partit à la rencontre d’Elisée. Il avait en cadeau avec lui tout ce qu'il y avait de meilleur à Damas, l’équivalent de la charge de 40 chameaux. A son arrivée, il se présenta à lui et dit : « Ton fils Ben-Hadad, le roi de Syrie, m'envoie vers toi pour demander s’il va survivre à cette maladie. »
  
  10 Elisée lui répondit : « Va lui dire qu’il survivra. Toutefois, l'Eternel m'a révélé qu'il mourra. »
  
  11 L'homme de Dieu fixa Hazaël du regard, avec insistance, puis il pleura.
  
  12 Hazaël demanda : « Pourquoi mon seigneur pleure-t-il ? » Elisée répondit : « Parce que je sais le mal que tu vas faire aux Israélites. Tu vas mettre le feu à leurs villes fortifiées, tuer par l'épée leurs jeunes gens, écraser leurs petits enfants et fendre le ventre de leurs femmes enceintes. »
  
  13 Hazaël dit : « Mais qu'est donc ton serviteur, ce chien, pour accomplir de si grandes choses ? » Elisée répondit : « L'Eternel m'a révélé que tu seras roi de Syrie. »
  
  14 Hazaël quitta Elisée et revint vers son seigneur, qui lui demanda : « Que t'a dit Elisée ? » Il répondit : « Il m'a dit que tu survivrais. »
  
  15 Le lendemain, Hazaël prit une couverture qu'il plongea dans l'eau, puis il en couvrit le visage du roi, qui mourut. Hazaël devint roi à sa place.
  
  16 La cinquième année du règne de Joram, le fils d'Achab, sur Israël, Joram, fils de Josaphat, le roi de Juda, devint roi.
  
  17 Il avait 32 ans lorsqu'il devint roi et il régna 8 ans à Jérusalem.
  
  18 Il marcha sur la voie des rois d'Israël comme l’avait fait la famille d'Achab – en effet, sa femme était une fille d'Achab – et il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Eternel.
  
  19 Toutefois, l'Eternel ne voulut pas détruire Juda à cause de son serviteur David. Il voulait respecter la promesse qu'il lui avait faite de lui donner toujours un successeur, ainsi qu’à ses descendants.
  
  20 A son époque, les Edomites se révoltèrent contre l'autorité de Juda et se donnèrent un roi.
  
  21 Joram partit pour Tsaïr avec tous ses chars. Il s'était levé de nuit et il battit les Edomites qui l’encerclaient, ainsi que les chefs des chars. Quant au peuple, il se réfugia dans ses tentes.
  
  22 La rébellion d'Edom contre l'autorité de Juda a duré jusqu'à aujourd’hui. Libna se révolta aussi à la même époque.
  
  23 Le reste des actes de Joram, tout ce qu'il a accompli, cela est décrit dans les annales des rois de Juda.
  
  24 Joram se coucha avec ses ancêtres et il fut enterré à leurs côtés dans la ville de David. Son fils Achazia devint roi à sa place.
  
  25 La douzième année du règne de Joram, le fils d'Achab, sur Israël, Achazia, fils de Joram, le roi de Juda, devint roi.
  
  26 Achazia avait 22 ans lorsqu'il devint roi et il régna un an à Jérusalem. Sa mère s'appelait Athalie et c’était la petite-fille d'Omri, le roi d'Israël.
  
  27 Achazia marcha sur la voie de la famille d'Achab, il fit comme elle ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Eternel, car il était allié par mariage à cette famille.
  
  28 Il partit avec Joram, le fils d'Achab, en guerre contre Hazaël, le roi de Syrie, à Ramoth en Galaad. Les Syriens blessèrent Joram.
  
  29 Le roi Joram repartit à Jizreel pour se faire soigner des blessures que les Syriens lui avaient infligées à Rama, lorsqu'il se battait contre Hazaël, le roi de Syrie. Achazia, fils de Joram et roi de Juda, descendit alors pour voir Joram, le fils d'Achab, à Jizreel, parce qu'il était blessé.
  
  2 Rois 9
  
  1 Le prophète Elisée appela l'un des membres de la communauté de prophètes et lui dit : « Noue ta ceinture, prends avec toi cette fiole d'huile et va à Ramoth en Galaad.
  
  2 Une fois arrivé là-bas, va voir Jéhu, le fils de Josaphat et le petit-fils de Nimshi. Tu le feras se lever au milieu de ses frères et tu le conduiras dans une chambre retirée.
  
  3 Tu prendras la fiole d'huile, tu la verseras sur sa tête et tu affirmeras : ‘Voici ce que dit l'Eternel : Je te consacre par onction comme roi d'Israël.’Puis tu ouvriras la porte et tu t'enfuiras sans attendre. »
  
  4 Le jeune prophète partit pour Ramoth en Galaad.
  
  5 Quand il arriva là-bas, il trouva les chefs de l'armée en train de siéger. Il dit : « Chef, j'ai un mot à te dire. » Jéhu demanda : « Auquel de nous tous ? » Il répondit : « A toi, chef. »
  
  6 Jéhu se leva et alla à l’intérieur de la maison. Le jeune homme versa alors l'huile sur sa tête en lui affirmant : « Voici ce que dit l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël : Je te consacre par onction comme roi d'Israël, du peuple de l'Eternel.
  
  7 Tu frapperas la famille de ton seigneur Achab et je vengerai sur Jézabel l’assassinat de mes serviteurs les prophètes et celui de tous les serviteurs de l'Eternel.
  
  8 Toute la famille d'Achab va disparaître, je vais exterminer tout homme qui appartient à Achab, qu’il soit esclave ou libre en Israël.
  
  9 Je vais rendre la famille d'Achab pareille à celle de Jéroboam, fils de Nebath, et à celle de Baesha, fils d'Achija.
  
  10 Les chiens mangeront Jézabel dans le champ de Jizreel et il n'y aura personne pour l'enterrer. » Puis le jeune homme ouvrit la porte et s'enfuit.
  
  11 Lorsque Jéhu sortit pour rejoindre les serviteurs de son seigneur, on lui dit : « Est-ce que tout va bien ? Pourquoi ce fou est-il venu vers toi ? » Jéhu leur répondit : « Vous connaissez bien l'homme et ce qu'il peut dire. »
  
  12 Mais ils répliquèrent : « C’est faux ! Raconte-nous donc ce qui s’est passé ! » Il répondit : « Il m’a parlé de telle et telle manière en affirmant : ‘Voici ce que dit l'Eternel : Je te consacre par onction comme roi d'Israël.’ »
  
  13 Chacun prit immédiatement ses habits et les mit sous Jéhu en haut des marches. Ils sonnèrent de la trompette et dirent : « C’est Jéhu qui est roi ! »

  14 Alors qu’Elisée était atteint de la maladie dont il mourut, Joas, le roi d'Israël, descendit vers lui, pleura contre lui et dit : « Mon père ! Mon père ! Char et cavalerie d'Israël ! »
  
  15 Elisée lui dit : « Prends un arc et des flèches. » Et il prit un arc et des flèches.
  
  16 Puis Elisée dit au roi d'Israël : « Bande l'arc avec ta main. » Quand il l'eut fait, Elisée posa ses mains sur celles du roi
  
  17 et dit : « Ouvre la fenêtre à l'est. » Et il l'ouvrit. Elisée dit : « Tire. » Et il tira. Elisée dit : « C'est une flèche de victoire de la part de l'Eternel, une flèche de victoire contre les Syriens. Tu battras les Syriens à Aphek jusqu'à leur extermination. »
  
  18 Elisée dit encore : « Prends les flèches. » Et il les prit. Elisée dit au roi d'Israël : « Frappe contre terre. » Il frappa 3 fois et s'arrêta.
  
  19 L'homme de Dieu s'irrita contre lui et dit : « Il fallait frapper 5 ou 6 fois ; alors tu aurais battu les Syriens jusqu'à leur extermination. Désormais, tu ne les battras que 3 fois. »
  
  20 Elisée mourut et on l'enterra. L'année suivante, des troupes de Moabites pénétrèrent dans le pays.
  
  21 On était en train d’enterrer un homme quand on aperçut une de ces troupes, et on jeta l'homme dans le tombeau d'Elisée. En touchant les ossements d'Elisée, l’homme reprit vie et se leva sur ses pieds.
