Cette maxime ne prétend pas à une portée morale directe ; elle énonce un fait qui se produit souvent. Comparez 14.20 ; 19.4,6-7. Le passage très analogue 18.11 apportera d'ailleurs un tempérament à cette affirmation : dans son imagination. L'auteur montrera dans de nombreux passages que la richesse est loin de répondre à tout (28.6,11 ; 18.23 ; 23.4) et qu'aux yeux de Dieu riches et pauvres sont égaux.
