Tu mangeras le fruit du travail... Ce qui ne signifie pas, comme on pourrait le croire : vivre de son travail, sans être obligé de recourir à l'assistance d'autrui. Pour les Hébreux, le contraire de manger le fruit de son travail c'est le voir manger par d'autres, et c'est là un malheur et une punition divine mentionnés très souvent dans l'Ecriture (Lévitique 26.16 ; Deutéronome 28.38, etc.) (Bovet). Le Psaume 127 rappelait que Dieu peut combler de biens celui qu'il aime pendant son sommeil. L'hôte accueilli dans la maison rappelle à celui qui vient de parler ainsi que, dans le cas présent, il y a eu travail persévérant, dans la crainte de Dieu.
